I think I've found a way to determine target speed and direction from long-distance via sonar contacts, but I haven't tested this method extensively:
Step One: When you get a contact via sonar, mark the direction it is in bearing to your U-boat on the nav map (one on the uboat itself and one to mark the bearing). You'll have to compensate for direction to true N. by 360 - bearing to contact (add 360 if a neg. number) = protracter dilineation. Then use your compass to make a circle out to 20 km (long distance) 10 km (medium range) and closer than that you should be able to spit on it. Start the stopwatch. Step Two: Draw a protracter line through the two marks you put down on the map out to the circle and put another mark there. One going the direction of the U-boat, and the other connecting the marks. Stop the clock at 3:15 sec. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to get the next set of markings. Use the Nomograph mod (I think wazoo made it? Not sure on this) to get the speed of your target, and draw a line using the ruler to get the approximate direction of the target. Then you can set a course for interception.

i dont understand the purpose of these two circles of 20 and 10 km. could you explain how did you determinate that the medium range is 10 km?

Short range= 0 - 1000m
Medium range= 1001 - 3000m Long range= 3001 -20,000m This is found in contacts.cfg He draws the circle at 10000m because anything closer should be in viewing range, or close to it. zz |
