Default FOTRSU Ambient Sound Effects

I've just started playing SH IV with the Fall of the Rising Sun Megamod. I am really enjoying it except for the obnoxious ambient sounds that can be heard when in the command room. It consists of whistling, aquatic life, loud creaking (even on the surface), and random zoom sounds. It's quite annoying and I was wondering if there was a way to turn it off. I appreciate that the modders wanted to include some sounds to enhance but its way more annoying than immersive. Thanks!

check out the fleetboat interior mod, it includes a much more quiet ambient sound.

My thoughts exactly so I modded them out.

Find file Your SH4 Install\Data\Sound\Sh.sdl

Open Sh.sdl using SH3 Editor

Scroll down the list and find line Ambient Interior

Set volume slider to zero (all the way to the left)

Save edited file.

I created a small mod activated using JSGME so that I can deactivate it when FOTRS updates and the reactivate it once the update is complete. To do this:

Create a new folder tree in the MODS folder Remove Ambient Interior Sounds\Data\Sound and add the edited Sh.sdl file to the Sound folder.

Activate using JSGME

You're done.

Try this, before you change the loudness of the file deactivate the FotRS mod and any other mod you have activated.

Install Silent 3ditor and you can turn those sounds off or down yourself. The file you're looking for is in the Sounds folder and it's called amb_SubmarineInterior, load it up using the sh thingie it's a type SDL file and it looks different to all those sound files.

Inside the Silent 3ditor the file is called Ambient.Interior, turn it down to about 50 and save it making sure that you are saving it inside 100_FalloftheRisingSun_Ultimate_v1.46_EN and that should sort it for you.

If that above wasn't clear enough for you I'm sure someone will reply with roughly the same instructions but better worded.

Ooh, Mr Randomizer is quicker than I am.

... besides the fact that you shouldn't be hearing creaks while above periscope depth... Have you tried a save game, exit game, re-start game, load saved game, routine yet? If you shell-out to Windows at all while in the game, you can get all sorts of oddness. Also, if you use headphones while playing, that seems to increase that "closeness" of that file. Either alternative above works, or just "mute" a copy of the file itself with an audio editor, and use that in a mini-mod - then you have nothing. Vicker's changes are a nice alternative though.

Thanks, guys! I wish I had known about the editor sooner. I'm back to an enjoyable experience.
