As an incompetent who can't do much in the way of design work, I'm following this thread with bated breath waiting to hear when this work gets put into a new FotRSU update.
One thing that would be very appreciated, if anyone knows - for each of the silhouettes, what is the reference for the indicated mast height in the recognition manual? In SH3, different mods were inconsistent - some using the mast, some using a funnel, others using a kingpost, but many times had a red line drawn at the reference for easy visuals. Are all the SH4 stock models referenced to a mast, or do they also have differing references? |

By default, the new silhouettes will assume referencing the mast providing that the vessel has a mast that is clearly visible at a typical engagement distance.
If the mast is too fine to see or has a tip that might not be noticed at a typical engagement distance then I will show either a red bar on the actual tip to let you know where it should be or (rarely) to a point where there is a visible point to aim. NCVE Kaiyo has misleading masts so I have clarified the one to use for aiming... Some of the gunboats have a mast that is thick but one of which has a fine tip. So far this is the sole exception where I have given a specific height to the aiming point. I have not got to the big warships yet so there are currently no "aim to funnel" silhouettes. Default : No mark, use mast tip Exception : Mark given, height to mark is correct

Updated to Version 2.0
Miscellaneous Pack 05 Carriers Pack 06 Download links are in the first page of this thread. Since I have not yet had a reply about the draft on the few Carriers that have an unusual hull structure I have opted for the "Depth to Keel" measurement if any vessel has lowered propeller shafts. This is a Recognition Manual for Sub Captains, not Harbourmasters. We need to know where to put our torpedoes, not worry about whether a large vessel will foul the bottom in a harbour or shipping channel. The Draft values for any vessel that is affected this way will be labelled with an asterisk as follows... (*) This vessel has propeller shafts that protrude significantly below the line of the hull. In order to provide useful torpedo targeting information I have listed the Depth to Keel for this vessel.

IJN_SubTender.sil
The .sil should be named IJN_SubTender_sil.

Only for the time being. If you read the note on the document with the ship dimensions you will see there is a pending name change for that vessel. I was asked by the FotRSU team to make the change in advance of it being needed by the mod.

Just a heads up... the NPC_01 and NPC_461 had incorrect silhouettes that were showing a totally different class of vessel so they will of course be getting accurate silhouettes from now on.
I am working my way through the smaller Escorts (NDE and similar). I may group NDD and NDE all into one package but there are a lot of them and they are slow as I am having to assemble all the different guns that each vessel requires. I reckon it takes almost a full hour to do each NDE.

Regarding the NDE_Tacoma_sil, the only ship folder I can find that has a similar name is the NFF_Tacoma, can you verify your NDE_Tacoma_sil is not a mistake on your end but is on mine.
Edit, I've just seen the NFF_Tacoma in your Included vessels list: problem solved I think.

Oh bother - I'll put it down to ship blindness by that point. Sorry, NFF_Tacoma is correct. I'll have it fixed in a jiffy.

In order to speed up the making of the silhouettes, I will be carefully selecting the weapons to display on the vessels as we go up the ship classes. This is because it is taking far too long to make the silhouettes if every weapon is placed on the hull and as ship sizes increase it is getting harder to actually see the smaller guns.
The Escorts had everything placed because the silhouette is taken much closer in and even small caliber AA guns can be seen. As we get to the Destroyers with their lengths of around 90-100m, I will be omitting small caliber AA but keeping everything else, especially if it is against the skyline. We will of course still see turrets, torps, depth charges and centre-mounted large caliber AA. I suspect that once we arrive at the Cruisers I will drop AA guns altogether and the capital ships will probably only have their main guns showing.

I am aiming to release the Destroyers in two batches since there are so many of them.
Once I have done the first 20 I will let them out in a group. When the second group of 20 are complete I will add them in and re-release the entire set of Destroyers. There should be no edits required to the first 20 once I have completed them - just more new Destroyer silhouettes and depth values.

CTD - it's not just a job

Excellent! Thank you. As just a guess-timate, how long for the next set would you think - maybe?

About two to three weeks I guess. They are slow going! The second set will just be an extension to this one with no edits to the existing Destroyers.
