Default External camera gone haywire

Don't know why but the external camera has gone haywire, when I go to view outside it is far away and on a slant, no matter what I do it won't correct.

I can get a bridge view but as soon as I select any other external it does as I said above.
I tried to go out of the sim and restart again but got the same, any ideas please?

Did you by chance use the "Next/Previous Unit" (the [ , < ] & [ . > ] keys) and go flying off somewhere? If you use those, or any mod or camera mod that alters the state of the camera to "remember" where it is use-to-use, then it can indeed be a pain. You can try a right-click mouse button to see what you get for "Previous View", or the NumPad [ 0 ] key, which on my keyboard has a little "Ins" on it for insert. Another thing you could try, if those don't get you back, is to go to that bad external view, then press the "Heading to view" button, which in FotRSU is the =/+ symbols key. Then use the F2 and see where you are turning to - if it does that - and then try to move the camera back from there. I thought there was a "return to zero" kind of combo of clicks, but I can't find that listed in my notes. Maybe a Shift / right-click? or a Ctrl / right-click?... Let us know how you get along! Maybe someone else with a better memory will come along with the keyboard short-cut to "zero" the camera location out...

we have seen this behavior before.
when kaleuns use the external camera, SH4 allocates memory resources for the various ships that appear on your screens.
eventually, SH4 runs out of its available memory allocated to the external camera and when that happens you see what you saw as a result. there is no fix.
without actual knowledge of the SH4 design, the best explanation i can think of is that SH4 has a certain amount of memory available for external views and over the course of the particular mission it fills the available memory with every ship that is viewed. when it runs out you see the haywire view. had they (SH4 designers) put additional thought into it OR had they properly tested it with actual users, they probably would have re-designed the memory allocation and either programmed a stack arrangement with re-use of memory capability or designed an end-of-memory screen rather than the haywire screen. this is all conjecture.

after experiencing this myself, i cut down on the number of times i use the external camera AND the number of ">" that use to cycle through all of the current ships available to view. this change has reduced the haywire occurrences.

good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Ah thanks Marco, that makes sense.
I was in a mission and completed it but I kept it going instead of going to the next mission.
I moved away from the area and explored still finding ships and saving, so that is more like what happened.
