I was there for the latter 60's, but if not for YouTube, I wouldn't hardly remember a ~bit~ of it, much less the 70's and early 80's...

As the man asks:

'Course, he asked that at every show, and apparently never remembered asking it at the previous show... - you can turn that off after the intro. Not the best version of that...

@ Aktungbby: - that is the best version of Crossroads
@ Mr Quatro: - 8-track in my 1968 Mustang coupe... cruisin'... good times, yeah, good times. I even purchased a "console" version of an 8-track player / recorder, so I could make my own tapes... cool stuff.

four slabs of "wood" for the box it was in... for sale on ebay for $79US! act now, and they'll give you a kitchen sink!... just kiddin'.

Try playing this song and listening to it on a motorcycle ...

Then explain why you were speeding to the judge

An interesting fact about For What It's Worth is there is no actual band drummer playing on the track; the percussion was provided by one of the owners, who was also an audio engineer, of the historic Gold Star Recording Studio in Hollywood (RIP), responding to Buffalo Springfield's dissatisfaction over the sound of the track (originally recorded at another competing studio); from the Gold Star official web page:

Quote:

Although recorded at a rival studio, Stan Ross was called upon to salvage what later became one of the most important songs of the 1960s - "For What It’s Worth" by Buffalo Springfield - when the band was unable to come up with a satisfactory performance . Stan fashioned a ’drum’ from a guitar wrapped in paper supplemented by a kick drum played by hand. It worked. Stan approved the final mix and, after two failed singles, Buffalo Springfield finally had a career;

Sometimes the best drummer isn't one at all...

Just adding this because I liked the sound of this recording...

Here is the same song recorded by two of the legends of soul. Sam Cooke's is the original 1964 track (unfortunately his last recording) and Otis Redding's is a cover he did a year later in 1965. The reason I posted both versions is because of previous discussions in this thread about drummers. The Cooke version has a good solid drum track, but lacks real feel; I haven't been able to determine who the drummer is, so, if anyone knows for sure, the info would be appreciated...

The Redding version has the singer backed by the Stax Record house band, Booker T. & The MGs, whose drummer, and founding member was the great
Al Jackson Jr., who had been drumming since early childhood; Jackson's father was a drummer in swing and jazz bands and Al Jr. carried quite a bit of Sr.'s swing feel into his own drumming. His work on Otis's Shake breathes a whole lot of life into the song...

...as an added bonus, a clip with dancing by some familiar faces...

...God, I could watch Barbara Eden dance all day...
