Came across this strange ghost-ship in SH4. Might be from a movie I've never seen.

Playing with TMO v2.5 I think it's an Easter Egg from a movie I've never seen or something like that. If you know what it is, feel free to tell me! |

There have been multiple reports over the years, with this being the most-used report thread:
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...968#post692968 razark does not believe in ghosts, especially the Flying Dutchman, but most of the rest of us have seen it... |

LIES! LIES!
Another one drawn into the conspiracy! Why do y'all do this? Always claiming to post "pictures" of some "ghost ship" that doesn't even exist! Hey, I've "seen" it too! Look, here's my screenshot: (Seriously, where do y'all find this thing? Years of this game and never once have I come across it.)

- That's that same shot you have used before, good sir!
Notice though, how your mouse cursor is "green" there?... You may not have waited long enough for the Dutchman to show!... shiver me timbers! doomed to sail the sea forever, ne'r to find port! what was his crime? |

My guess is you guys who never saw her play only Pearl Harbor careers, never Asiatic. Every time I saw the Dutchman she's somewhere in the South China Sea or Luzon Strait. Makes sense, since the original legend came from a story about a ship which picked up goods from the Dutch East Indies (Java, Borneo, etc.) then got into a storm, and the captain cursed God saying something to the effect of "Damn me but I'll never turn back, I'll get around this cape if I have to sail for all eternity!" Hence a ghost ship full of dead men cursed to sail for all eternity. Pirates of the Caribbean borrowed from the legend to make the Flying Dutchman into Davy Jones' ship, lot of alterations from the original 1700s legend.
Asiatic career, SARGO class, March 1942, Luzon Strait. Close up, usual appearance. From some angles the ghostly glow is off, looks like a typical caravelle. |

I almost always start Asiatic, since it's so much closer to the hunting grounds, and it's full of nice little islands and choke points rather than boring open water and the Japanese coast.

Has she ever materialized in a major battle? How do the Japanese react?
