Report on Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate v0.29 Beta EN with TMO sensors. Sensors are great. IJN Tankers mission started with some airplane dodging. Stupidly got spotted by planes but dove to 120' without incident. Bombs fell well clear.

But they called their buddies, the escorts, which then arrayed in front of the convoy. I took up position 1800 yards from the track, stern facing the track. Hit silent running, 1 knot. Then as escorts came within 3 miles submerged to 247 feet, 50' below the thermal layer, silent running.

Escort sashayed right to me, dropped charges (I did not hear a splash but did hear the escort's motors). First depth charge hit directly on deck and I went down, never having the opportunity to fight.

The sensors were magnificent. The boat only went 14 knots on the surface WFO. Don't know what gives there. AI seems a bit bloodthirsty as I got thoroughly wet. Probably was crushed at the same time.

This mod is darned close to ready for prime time. Players who are concerned that the AI is too hard need to consider that among our later plugin releases will be four levels of enemy AI, ranging from darned easy to almost impossibly difficult. I have to find a depth charge splash sound mod.

Going now to work on the loading title screen. Wow. It's good!

Well, all that I've found thus far is a "42b_Jap_CoastalTraffic.mis" RGG 141 that did not show a defined "Leader" unit. When looking into the definition of the RGG, it showed "GENERIC Coastal Vessel"... So now I'm off looking for all the RGG in the Campaign that have a "GENERIC" vessel defined as the Leader. I'm going to make them all have a set vessel as their Leader. Again, it might be anything, but if a field is "blank" in the Properties sheet for a RGG, I don't trust the computer and game engine to resolve the issue in a timely enough fashion, if a skipper is using TC... From what I can tell in those ReadMe files we've discussed elsewhere, the Katori was implicated also, but I've never seen a Katori "Run-Away Spawn Incident" myself. There is one thread where a person mentions a bunch of CL, but did not name the Class... We're still going to do the "fix" though, and then do a LOT of "testing"... ahem.

I took a few minutes last night to look in the 43a Jap Convoys and 43a Jap merchants mission files last night following the waypoints that ran through the area where I had the Large Convoy encounter and crash. Then compared them to the TMO same files. I find it interesting that TMO uses all Generic calls and FOTRSU uses specific calls and a few Generic calls. I know you've mentioned this fact before pb. Just wonder which way is better?

I'm a little surprised that our Beta testers haven't found more problems sofar.

Hmmmmm. I thought we had already decided that except in a few spots we'd go to generic calls. But whatever works!

We don't want to push real hard to get 0.30 out really quickly. More time for beta testers to report in means a better first public beta.

Cdrsubron7 is working on his Tambor198 Mission Files for inclusion in the core mod and I consider them essential. That will take at least through the weekend.

When v0.30 is mixed it will go both to Area 51 for further development and to the Subsim download area for everybody to try.

We haven't changed any of the types of calls, either way to more GENERIC with [RandomGroup 1.RdmUnit 1] or more regular groups [Group 1.Unit 1] just yet. Some of TMO Campaign went with a bunch of "regular" groups, such as their harbor defenders, found in the SubHunter groups, and they used more RGG for the convoys and such. Stock is almost exclusively RGG, except specific Groups and Units for the named battles. I'm not sure which way is best, but it would seem to me that if you reduce the amount of "decisions" for the computer by reducing the number of RGG and Generic vessels that have to be "thought" about and ciphered on, the more efficient the game's engine runs... ?? But, how "stressed" does it really get with those tasks? Might not even be an issue.

I'd imagine that if the CTDs (me included) don't have the CL patch put in the game, that any group that's supposed to have a Katori, Tenryu or Yubari CL will potentially take them out to the desktop, aka: Crash To Desktop (CTD) (CTD... ironic, ain't it? - Crash Test Dummy - too rich ). But, there aren't too many of those calls in the Campaign.

I am downloading 0.29 now and will attempt to take it for a spin this weekend

Out of interest RR - you mention this has new sensors (or possibly TMO sensors)
When did this happen?
Is this part of Capn Scurvy's Sensor overhaul, or something separate?

Something separate from the work that CapnScurvy was doing.

Brother max-peck! Say, the beta 29 by itself is not quite fit for human consumption. You'll want to find the "NewCLupdate.7z" and the "ModifiedBismarkMiniMod.7z" files in the InspectionAndExchange folder over there. Some of the CL were turned "off" due to issues, and the Bismark -er- Bismarck... caused troubles also. There's an old Silent Hunter history lesson in there somewhere... - both of those are JSGME compatible. If you would, could you make certain that your skins are functioning as intended... Thank you sir! Keep your eyes open for the 30 version. Rockin Robbins and s7rikeback have the kettle on a low simmer right now, just looking for some eye of Newt and a pinch of Tambor198...

Speaking of which there cdrsubron7, I've now gotten 3 of the "party crashers" going... it's all in the ship calls... very strange. I gotta go re-boot my computer again now, 'cause the SM105 Sibutu Passage now has me in an endless loop of "Error: platform CAMaya not found in platforms library!"... won't let me out! Say goodnight. Goodnight, doan shut zee leed so tight!

Throwing myself out there to Beta test FOTRS if there is a need for another tester. Have a lot of free time on my hands unfortunately and have been playing 1.3v the past few weeks. Just another willing hand here if you need it. No hurt feelings if not needed.
