Default Question regarding the Bismarck

o7 Captains!

I'm curious - I'm currently pushing U-69 (VIIC) to her limits, racing for the NE corner of BE53, time is 0100, 27 May 1941.

We all know the significance of that date.

I'm 200km out - is the last battle of the Bismarck being received over my wireless mere background, or is the battle actually happening in the game? I'd love to see/participate if it is - we know of course how it ends.

Cheers!

Hi Captain Hammered,
Yes, Operation Rheinübung is modeled in TWoS (I assume you use TWoS) but due to random nature of the game it is unlikely that everything will happen as it was in the real life. In short, Bismark, Prinz Eugen, Hood and Prince of Wales will depart their home ports on a specific dates and follow their historical routs but will they meet and engage in combat depends of many different random factors. However, Bismark and Hood will be "deactivated" by the game when they reach their final resting places...

I remember once I intercepted the Bismark and Prinz Eugen in the Baltic short after their departure, here is a screenshot...

Oh excellent, thank you!

I'd just departed St. Nazaire for Freetown and was settling in for the long cruise when the urgent message from BdU came in - I arrived on station too late.

I'll restart in the pen, and schlepp arsch for the location. Given what you say it's unlikely the ships will be in historical position at the right time, but I'll see if I can spot them, anyway.

And yes, I'm playing TWoS; it's bloody brilliant. It took a decent game (I'm less negative about SH5 than some here) and turned it into a rare and wonderful sim - incredibly challenging; huge jeopardy and consequence for lazy/incautious play. At full max it's as yet too hard for me to enjoy and THAT is really a remarkable achievement in itself - it's been a VERY long time I've found a game where 'max difficulty' wasn't just 'a bit harder'. I learn a bit at a time and grow into it - and that is beautiful.

Lol now if I could just get those manual dive planes figured out it'd be perfect.

Cheers!
