Default Serrated edges on front of sub. Any good for ramming?

I was watching my ssub go about its merry way in the external view mode and i git to thinking about the purpose of the "blades" i couldnt think of any purpose other than ramming. Anyone ever had any luck with ramming if so how'd you do it? what depth? what speed? against what target? Thanks in advance.

That is a net cutter. Early war boats were equipped with them to (in theory) be able to cut anti-submarine nets. They were of limited use so they were removed later on in order to streamline the boat.

Ramming in a submarine is a suicidal tactic. You risk damage to your pressure hull and a submarine that can't dive is a dead duck.

Not sure how it applies in game as I've never tried it.

I though those net cutter were for hanging the newly washed uniforms. You learn something new ever day.

In Sh3 ramming does work very well against most ships and does little
damage to the u-boat. Of course, this is utterly unrealistic.

of course if your captain is klingon then ramming is a valid tactic!
Today is a good day to die!!!

More than one escort (and even a merchant) has disemboweled itself on my conning tower only to sink minutes later. :rotfl:But I've never considered ramming another ship.

I once sustained serious damage when I rammed a tugboat.

I have successfully sunk many fishing boats and small coastal vessels by ramming, without damage to myself, but when I do, I get no credit for their sinking.

Fire a few AA rounds into the boats first and then ram them. This works for me in SH4. If the weather's too rough to man the guns you're out of luck.

The net cutter was fit on WWI sub, so what you see in early VIIBs is only the reminescence of that. Than it was removed, probably because unuseful against WW2 nets.

Sinking ships by ramming in SH3 stock is possible, but, as far I know, GWX fixed it avoiding the sink of a rammed ship (to be closer to real life).

i have a book about polish navy in ww2, and there is a part about submarine ORP Orzeł (Eagle). On one patrol she hit such anti-sub net and make a hole in it. and what's interesting it managed to sink merchant firing two eels throught that hole... so i wouldn't say net cutter is completely useless

I've rammed ships by accident before. Usually when I'm firing my deck gun on them and fail to realize they slowed down or stopped. Sometimes I get away without damage, other times I take damage.

As for ships hitting me, I've only lost a Deck gun in SH4 after a Cruiser ran me over before I could get deep enough.
