Actually they did, it was the Japanese attack on Dec 7th, 1941 that allowed Roosevelt to officially enter the war in Europe without a lot of blowback from the citizens.

That and Germanys declaration of war against us (for declaring war on their ally Japan) just days later on the 11th of December.

Weren't your ancestors engaged in lend and lease already before? Early 1941, I seem to recall. And that is what the US action over Ukraine today compares to. Not declaring war, but lend and lease. You even have revoked or mull to revoke the law from back then. I forgot the details but you certainly know what I mean, its in the news since a few weeks.

They were, but only for the 8-9 month period prior to declaring war. However in reality it was Roosevelt's end run around the neutrality acts of the late 30's to further advance his foreign policy goals. Fast forward to today, we have another European conflict and a U.S President wanting to remain relevant on the world stage. Face it (NATO) Europe/U.S. is a day late & a dollar short in this "crisis". The time to stop Putin in his tracks with minimum fallout was in Feb 2014.

No, February 2008. If not even 1996ff.

But back then we still fell for Putin's lies. Me too, I shamefully admit. Mea culpa. At least I am teachable.

The relevant question for Europe is what are you willing to do to stop Putin now? I think Europe going to continue giving token material to Ukraine hoping to bleed Russia enough so that they'll be less of a threat for the next few years without having to actually do anything of substance.

Understanding that Russia still has a shirtload of nukes and that nukes don't require training or morale might go a long way in understanding that pushing this too far is possibly a really bad thing.

What will the United States get from a devastated country called Ukraine? Now let's roll back to the 40t's. It was your ancestors that brought about lend lease.Am i right or am i wrong ?
