I almost can't play the game with out this mod...
Make sure you install this mod with JSGME after all other mods. Its always the last mod I install just to be on the safe side even though this mod doesn't appear to overwrite anything.

I have solved the issue it seems. In windows sound options/recording devices/mic properties/advanced I had to DISABLE exclusive mode... typically I always have it on for my little gaming mic since different games require different settings and I prefer to do it in game. For whatever reason the horrible mess that is SH5 - this makes things worse.

I'm on windows 8.1 so specifically, "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and " give exclusive mode applications priority" have to be DE-selected/de-activated. Hopefully this helps someone else.

win8.1
TWOS
(+ couple audio mods)

Now time to pray the game doesn't crash for these 72 hour patrols love the 'open' feeling patrol objectives idea, but executing them within such an unstable game can be pretty rage mode due to crashes.

Might I suggest you upgrade to SH3 with GWX?

You can suggest whatever you think is right, but your last suggestion, as well as Netscape's rant, are in the wrong thread

Sure you can...That way his game will crash "only" during long expected convoy engagement...Might I suggest you to continue flaming the threads in SH3 part of the forum?

And to everyone using speech recognition mod:
If I remember correctly it is well documented that this mod can, more or less, cause CTD's depending of system settings, used modlist, mic configuration ect...I really never used it so I still cant confirm compatibility with TWoS although some people claim that it can work very well.

Maybe you should check TWoS tips for stable gameplay...Following them gave me so far campaign play through from 1939 to late 1943 with just a handful CTDs during Mediterranean campaigns (and that was before my optimization tweaks for Med.campaigns)...

I have found this mod generally works good with TWOS but one or two commands will lead to a CTD. Requesting the Chief to recharge batteries has caused a couple of CTDs for me so i never use it. Also if the game is loaded up with a lot going on, for example toward the end of a 48 hr patrol where you are unable to save the game due to resetting the patrol timer, the Chief may occasionally order random things like "Blow Ballast" while you are laying on the bottom trying to silently evade the six destroyers above that are trying to kill you. I usually use the "voice com stop listening" command if you are doing something critical that you don't want anyone to mess up, usually the Chief!

Got English and German language packs installed now and can switch between them.

Just need to find a way to make everything operational in the game.

Hey guys. I installed everything and also put the mod in through JSGME.

But.... It does not work.

I started speech recog in windows. Then opened the game.

Changed speech recog in the Main config before that.

No luck. I do not see the microphone icon in the UI nor does it hear anything.

Win 7 SP1 here.

Any info on how to get this speech control to actually start working ?
Nowhere in the documentation does it say anything about how to let the game know you want to use speech recog.

Are you using "The Wolves of Steel" mod? This mod incorporates TDW's New UI's which is required for Speech Recognition_MiTons_NewUI_Editon_v0.4.1_english to work in SH5.

YES !

I use the TWOS mod !

However even with the speech rec test which finds commands (in English)

When I start the game and load my mission there is no mic icon in the GUI and whatever I say does not register somehow.

Ashikaga

Oh I see I downloaded this one.

Speech Recognition_MiTonsEdition_v0.4_english.zip

Where can I find version new UI 04.1 in English as well as German ?

.

The latest TWoS has the correct UI to run Speech Recognition. I think there is a German version as well. Install the latest version of TWoS and Update 16.4 as per the installation guide and then install Speech Recognition_MiTonsEdition_v0.4_english.zip or German version last using JSGME. You can do the Windows Speech training to make sure that is working ok, but once that is done, you don't need to start VR in windows. Just start SH5 and click on the microphone icon in the upper RH side of the Ui. A speech recognition window will pop up and you click on it. There is a momentary freeze as the program is loaded, and then the second click will activate Speech Recognition. If you install TWoS correctly and then the Speech Recognition program last, it will definitely work unless you have a problem with the Windows side of things.

Okay I have gotten English speech recog to work in Win 7 but not perfect.

Does not hear all commands.
Have to be down in the sub to give the order to dive. (logical)

changing PY file does not work, 70 confidence keeps cropping up.

At times when using speech recog of Windows ingame Windows thinks I am commanding Windows and starts opening screens and programs. What also happens frequently is that when I try to exit the UI (shift-Z) The speech recognition just shuts down.

But it is a discovery expedition. So I will learn slowly.
It is however rather funny to say periscope depth and have the program respond.

Also there is a lot of information and manuals on setting up and customizing Speech Recognition_MiTons_NewUI_Editon_v0.4.1_english contained in the Documentation folder of this actual mod plus SHSpeechEngineTest.exe. I use this program in SH5, and VoiceAttack in Falcon 4 BMS4.33 to communicate with the AI pilots, Air Traffic Control, Tanker etc and both programs never activate anything in Windows. Make sure that you don't have Windows Speech Recognition running simultaneously with the one in SH5.
