Default Atlantic warfare: A RANT

<Rant on>

Dear community,

some time ago, ATWAR was born. All were excited. All? ...
Looks like it died a silent death.

To be honest, I'm pretty pissed now, because Hans blames me (and other "trolls") as a reason for this.

"The thread were deleted on my request since trolls have a free roaming pass on subsim and thing were getting out of control and we had no other choice than to close them to be able to develop ATWAR with peace of mind.

People who complain have not the slightness idea about the amount of work and knowledge required to build a great Sim but it is so easy to get on a forum and blasting developers.

No wonder serious developers don't want to do Sim anymore since they can have a much easier life developing a dumb down RPG for the mass and their fans support them a ton."

Now this just let me fall of my chair. As a developer by myself I have more than only a slightest idea about the amount of work and YES, that's the reason I (and others) questioned the risk of that huge feature list.

So Hans is a serious developer and we not, at least that's what I read out of these lines. The fans here supported him very well, it was just me who asked questions: http://subsim.com/radioroom/showthre...=207460&page=7

"In late fall you will start to see actual in game footage shown on the Atlantic Warfare website so stay tuned."

This was postponed again and again. From late fall to end of december, then end of january, then end of february, then march. Now all is gone. Great.

To summarize: This is a discussion board. Things can be discussed here. Don't get me wrong. As a developer by myself and in huge delay with my project as well I know the difficulties. But I never ever would blame the community for this. And I never would delete threads and postings with serious questions.

Dear uncle Neal, I'd love to see this thread alive, this is not trolling. To me it looks like Hans is and was the troll, blaming each other but himself. For me this is just unprofessional behaviour.

</Rant off>

Hans called me a troll too.
I was always fair to ATWAR and Hans, but i think it was only hot air from the begining to the end.

And Hans, i remember your words... "the silent depth thing..." taunting others work is stupid.

I follow VIC's project WOTA with a lot of interest and i'm happy about the big steps he made with his very good project.

I agree. I supported ATWAR from the very beginning, and even offered to work on my project, but when I tried to defend you guys, because you obviously weren't trolls, Hans insulted my intelligence.

I'm very, very dissapointed.

"The thread were deleted on my request since trolls have a free roaming pass on subsim and thing were getting out of control and we had no other choice than to close them to be able to develop ATWAR with peace of mind."

That's pretty offensive to the moderating team as well

My suggestion is to just let it all go, and not let yourselves get riled up by it. In the greater scheme of things does it really matter?

I think this is a fair complaint and worth bringing up, but I'm not sure ranting about it is the best way to go - best to bring this up with Neal.

This reminds me, almost word for word, of some of the SH3 mod conflicts circa early 2006. I think most people involved would agree that even though the problems may have been upsetting, they really weren't worth the nerves.

I also don't think the community is supposed to serve and protect anyone's ego. A good developer has to be able to stand up to criticism and keep a healthy attitude. The ex-Ubi Romania guys behind SH3 like Dan were great at acknowledging their flaws and still being valuable and respected community members - and it wasn't just what they dud, but how they acted that earned respect.

I agree. I don't see how it is constructive to keep going down this road. Say your piece and then let it go. We don't need any more drama.

another loser who believed himself the messiah, who failed at creating his fantastic vision. where have i seen this before? oh yeah about a thousand other vaporware "kaleuns", captains, commanders, and rent-a-dev extraordinaires, whose feature lists are as massive as their egos, who think a few 3d renders is going to win them the love and affection of the entire community.

only problem are those pesky realistic and skeptics who don't buy into this game development equivalent of a get rich quick scheme. yeah, blame everything on those "trolls" because their words somehow have the ability to make you lose talent, skill, experience, determination, etc required to make this project a reality...or perhaps you just never had the aforementioned qualities to begin with. hmm, i wonder which is the more likely possibility.

ATWAR was a great idea, shame it was only an idea.

hans with his finger permantly hovering over the delete button showed his lack of maturity and professionalism.

I woudnt be surprised if he was on his own as other team members pulled out.

We have taken development behind closed doors that is all ATWAR is still being worked on but because of the way a few people have acted towards the project we have opted to DELETE the threads on subsim because it is hard enough to keep moral up in the team without all the negative posts coming for a select few people.

We have been called all sorts of names and unfortunately we said enough was enough. We wanted to make the community part of the development but just like life the few ruined it for the many. If you still support the project please drop me a PM so I can bring the positive support to the team.

There are no negative posts!
There are no posts at all because everybody knew that the project will fail under this boss. You need a new boss and a realistic roadmap.

I followed the ATWAR thread every day. I didn't see any negative questions.
What i saw was negative and angry answers.

I think desertstriker made a good point. We've all had our say about this, there's no value in beating a dead horse.
