Default LAA and SH 4 AI fix

Just wondering how to get the SH 4 AI fix by Nicolas to work with LAA. Since to enable the AI fix have to start up via fix, not the the regular SH 4.exe.

Always hated how SH 4 escorts are always pinging even if can't hear them, makes getting inside convoy screens submerged at scope depth or anything other that 400 feet pretty much impossible especially in later war when it was something that could be done.

Of course LAA is required, we know this.

do you have a link to the fix?
it would be realistic to hear the escorts pinging from far away with the sonar gear

I have read somewhere of a couple of skippers mentioning being able to find convoys because the escorts were constantly pinging. Also, pinging was used to take soundings to find the bottom in potential shoals areas. No one at the time had all-inclusive, reliable charts of the Pacific. If I remember correctly, the type of sonar used is the determining factor for the pinging - if I'm not mistaken (the odds are against me )... but the numbers escape...

SHO Re: SH4 AI fix & LAA... query...

Jusssst outta dumb curiosity, how likely & doable, would it be to rename the item in the fix to say... SH4.exe or some such name that ID's it as the kick starter to starting up the mod version of SH4 you have it added to... & to have LAA recog it as such... would that, even be doable..?

Kind of fool LAA into doing so as to then be able to use the fix & LAA together at the same time.

Just.. spit ballin' here.. & hope it helps.

Nicolas's "fix" basically intervenes with what the game loads, but still uses the SH4.exe file, so what you set it to with LAA should still hold - I think...

Windows 10 now "flags" this as a PUP... previous Defenders did not do that... it is probably doing that because of the "injection" nature of the executable file...

You don't always hear them pinging (if did would not mind as much) but from what understand in SH 4 (way it was explained long ago) the escorts are always pinging, even when not alerted, you just hear it when they focus on you. Once alerted they focus on player submarine. Issue is, especially in TMO player can not slip through screen submerged when should be able to do so in many instances since the sonar is always active. I remember using the fix before and it did solve the issue. However, once alerted, be it by torpedo impacts, visual sighting, or hydrophone contact, etc the vicious TMO escorts were back. I never cared for the AOB "Fix" so did not enable it, but the AI fix is great especially later war when convoy screens are heavy.

While have read accounts of escorts pinging such as in "Silent Running" by Calvert. I believe in most cases this was them checking possible acoustic contacts, aside from escorts making "sweeps" such as when ships are leaving port or passing a chokepoint or other hazardous area. Doubt they sailed along pinging the entire journey.

Most aggravating thing is when find a clear gap in a screen a submerged submarine should be able to slip through at silent running and and some depth and nearly do it, but because they are always active, they nearly always detect player. As said, if could always hear it, as was in real life, would be a trade off I suppose but not how it is in the sim. What happens in later war with the heavy screens it forces player to fire from unrealistic ranges or since Mark 18 is standard in last part of war and range is only 4000 yards, not able to fire at all ends up not reflecting reality where Mark 18 was the primary torpedo used at that stage of the war. Surface attacks at night are not always an option either, moonlight, weather etc.

So after a perfect attack and two hours of depth charge evasion, CTD. I was upset but same time very rare for me to get a CTD esp during evasion, it happens.

Taking the opportunity, I opened LAA and selected the AI fix to modify, then started SH 4 via the AI fix which says (launch SH 4). No issues thu far, sim running fine, believe LAA is active. The AI fix appears active. Unfortunately I forgot one effect is does somewhat nerf the AI at times once have detected you. I had to dive after night surface attack, the pinged a while dropped charges, some close but gave up easier than usual, in ideal sonar conditions. I had dropped two decoys and was a 587 feet, last few times have had to go to 650 feet or so to get away. Ah this sim, can't win lol

While kind of off / on topic. So to use this AI fix we what?

A. Just start it and launch sh4?

B. Start the fix then mouse click on the option we want then launch SH4?

C. Start the fix, launch the game then hit the keystroke in game?

Starting the fix and hitting the keystroke before launching SH4 removes the "Launch SH4" button.

Download the AI fix, place it in your main game folder which should be C:/Ubisoft/SilentHunter4/. You click the Sh4AIfix icon. The are two places to click. First you click "enable" and then Launch SH 4. The AI fix is enabled.
