Aye. Can anyone else host a Subsim Domi server?

I could host one in theory, though I don't have a dedicated server machine so I'm not sure how well that would work...

At least for Domi you need a dedicated application for it to work properly. Could in theory run it on the same machine as you're playing on, but might be tricky on performance.

I just really hope we can get one up and running. I didnt play with you guys much, but I really enjoyed getting on there with a few people I knew and hashing out some nice well coordinated strikes.

Have you considered the option of joining 2nd 53rd Air Infantry? Sounds like what you enjoy, we do.

Youre in it??

And no I haven't, I just liked what we at Subsim had going. No rigid style, no commitments nothing like that. Just jump on play and have a good time, but being that it was objective based, and Arma is an unforgiving game, we all ended up cooperating and working pretty well when we were all on or even just two of us.

Yep and Arclight is too. We get on during most weekends and just mess about aside from the structured mission nights.

In case anyone is interested, Steam currently has 40% off Arma III all weekend.

@TarJak

Hey i just wanted to pop by here and let you know that after spending a couple of weeks with Arma 3 i can safely say that it is not for me.

Not saying its a bad game at all i just prefer my shooters a little faster and more Arcady.

I did sigh up to join you guys @ 2nd 53rd but wanted to try and get a feel for the game first before going on missions with you.

I just want to thank you for the offer of invitation but for my shooter fix i will be playing other
games.

I just did not want to waste you guys time on a game that i was not sure if i was going to stick with.

Thanks again and all the best to you.

Hey that's fine. If it doesn't grab you then it's not something to spend time on. If you want to give it another go later the offer is still there. We're always looking for fresh meat.

So I don't know if this is just me, but why does it feel like Arma 3 has very much a lack of units compared to Arma 2??

I don't think the unit list is finished yet, I believe a 'future' A-10 was in the works last I saw, it looks like an F-22 got very drunk and ended up in bed with a hawg, it's...well, its mother must love it, and that's the most important thing...

I do like the way that equipment is set up in A3, and the physics engine is lovely...but the time period leaves me cold, whilst I'll admit the drones are a lot of fun (especially when you realise that you can actually kill someone by kamikazing into their head with one ) the 'tanks' and other vehicles...they're not that brilliant. Fantastically modelled, but...whilst I know what an M1A2 Abrams is, what it looks like, what it should be able to do, I know nothing about whatever armoured vehicle myself and Raptor took for a spin in our last game of A3 was, except for the fact that the future must have very expensive ammunition because it had less rounds than the average RARDEN magazine.
However, the beautiful part of Arma has always been the user base, so I'm waiting and hoping that people will make beautiful real world vehicles to use, there's already some lovely aircraft for A3, and A1 and A2 vehicles have been ported over to A3, but really it's a stop-gap solution.

I mean, I guess in time I could get used to it, but until then it makes battlefield ID a bit difficult, in A2 it was a case of "T-72 front", in A3 it's "Erm, armoured thing, front."

Basically, right now I think of A3 as a canvas for future real world and Cold War mods to be used on.

That being said though...another thought which does concern me somewhat has struck me which also explains the fact that there are more new fixed wing aircraft for A3 than there are road vehicles and helicopters.
A3s physics engine means that helicopters and road vehicles need to be created to a much higher fidelity than in A2, this is the reason that Cold War Reloaded, the excellent mod for A2 will not be coming to A3, the workload is just too high.
A similar effect can be seen in the Train Simulator community, in the MSTS days when things were fairly basic, freeware models were quite prolific, as were freeware routes. However with the new Train Simulator, the modelling is much more complex, and the freeware sector has gone into decline as more and more people, quite rightly, decide that they should be recompensed for the effort put into making their product.
What does this mean for A3?
I'm not exactly sure, but I wouldn't expect a major rush of new vehicles just yet, although I await to be pleasantly surprised by the modding community.

There are quite a few mod packs in the works for A3. Including a redo of a few of the A2 units. Most of the A2 maps have been ported as well. The missing community still appears to be pretty strong at the moment.

Iirc there's a I44 port that has been done already.
