Oct 1, -39, 1215. 7´th Flotilla, Kiel.

Benno Grossman docks U-54, type VIIb, after 31 days at sea. What started as an training trip through the Kiel Kanal turned into his first warpatrol. Upon passing Helgoland orders came to patrol grid AM18. Orders are orders and the course was set, north of Scapa.
On the 5´th an British destroyer were spotted and sunk, 100km north of Scapa.
From the 14´th to the 16´th 5 merchants were sunk in AM51-AM52.
On the 22´nd an merchant was sunk in AN12, only 1km from where the destroyer was sunk.
And on the 24´th yet an merchant was sunk in AN14.
Total tonage: 15500 tons.

Not bad for an green crew, not yet fully trained

On this patrol I found out that chasing a heavily defended convoy in heavy fog is not a good idea. While chasing a large convoy heading west a destroyer suddenly appeared out of the fog in front of me and passed us at less then 100 meters. It seemed that they were as suprised as I was because I was able to start to crashdive before the DD opened fire. Although my boat was damaged, the U-108 eventually got away to fight another day.

U-178 was ordered not to do a combat but to transfer directly to bergen where i would take command of a type VIIC/41 uboat

Oberleutnant Wolfgang Bahr
september 18th, 1944

---------------------------------------------------------------

when i arrived at bergen the boat wasnt yet finished
but on the 10th of november i got the message..the boat is done everything is ready
6 days later we left on a combat patrol wich lasted 35 days and we sunk 2 merchants for around 18000 tons and a destroyer for around 1100 tons
i consider this great results looking on the past few weeks of sinkings

Oberleutnant Wolfgang Bahr
20th of december, 1944

ps
thanks brag..i need all the luck i can get in these dark days

and the reason i got from november 44 to the end of the war so fast is that our plane was struck by 2 bombs in a bomb raid on bergen and wasnt fully repaired untill april 29th 45

Summary
Kapitänleutnant Erwin Schmidt and U-28 surrendered to the Allies on 04MAY40. Erwin Schmidt was sent to a POW camp in Scotland where he spent the rest of the war. After the war Erwin Schmidt completed a commercial training course and worked for some years as a commercial representative. Then he retired from this profession to become the director of a sailing school on the island of Elba in the Mediterranean. He was for a long time the chairman of the "Verband der U-Boots-Fahrer" in Germany. He died on 4 November 1982 in Hamburg.

Just finished this one after i torpedoed 2 merchants in convoy in heavy fog and 15 meters waves. I didnt even notice the destroyer cause i was to busy targeting the second merchant. All i heard was 2x ping and then the engines of destroyer coming from aft. He rammed me and throw depth charges so i had to surrender. I had also few men killed by depth charges.

In this career i have seen a battleship for the first time and had a patrol with over 100,000 BRT sunk. Both things happened on my 5th patrol.

90 % realism. I have map update and ext. cam on.

I started to play again after a year or two. i played at 100% before but that just isnt for me. Takes to much time and i dont have it that much.

P.s.: Now i started a new career in type IXC out of Lorient on January 1st 1940. First time for me to command a type IX.
