Spoiler alert: the final boss can control your troops minds. That's a bad thing when you have psionic flying plasma rifle toting supersoldiers.

Until I met Mutons.
Mutons aren't bad, especially given the choice of having them or a Cyberdisc...I would go for Mutons anyday.

I had the luck of having them both in 1 missions

Don't rush it anymore than other missions. I do what I can on those, but really getting my guys through that is more important.

But it certainly can go south in a heartbeat...

It's a miracle I only lost half the team on op. Stone Law. Moved everyone to cover from deployment, 2 thin man come into view on their turn and the reaction shots failed to kill anything. Before I could do anything substantial, I was in contact with every bloody enemy on the map at once, including a Cyberdisc.

Not a good day.

Terror mission in Cairo.

Walk out of Skyranger...receive Cyberdisc and three Sectoids.

It's the smaller maps that really hurt. Barely make a move before making contact, and after that patrols start wandering into the fight. Run out of ammo halfway through and yer toast.

Nah, some of the smaller maps are definitely death traps, but it's the larger landed/crashed UFO maps that are the real problem. You try to take your time fighting some Sectoids and suddenly your flanks are filled with Mutons and Floaters...

Or Mutons & Chrysalids... thank god I had plenty of rockets with me, the game,
FOR A CHANGE, decided I really should not hit those Mutons from point-blank
range with a machine gun.

RIP Patrick Stewart, flanked by a floater during a disastrous assault on a landed medium UFO.

Really? I find the UFO maps the easiest by far. Lots of room to maneuvre and you can engage on your terms.

Bad day to be a Cyberdisc.

Surprise!

Or so I thought... turns out a sneak attack triggers their movement; borked his double tap, got shot for 9 damage and a berserker bashed his face in. Survived with 1 HP and ran like a sissy.

Turning the tide.

As soon as I get the bazillion space-bucks to buy them.

Met my first Chrysalids in the original, now I understand why people hate them so much. Half my team were zombies in the first few minutes until I figured out what the hell was happening and counterattacked. Found their snakemen masters...someone threw a grenade and the game crashed.

Chrysalids are VERY frustrating when you first see them but honestly they are a walk in the park when the game starts putting up to 5-6 mutons and 1-2 cyberdisks within two feet of the skyranger......................................... ......................... GAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Had that with a cyberdisk and three Sectoids. The first guy out of the skyranger ended up being a deep crater after they'd finished with him. I took one look and thought.... "How about no" and ran away.
