Mush, your ubergroop is cool, its also a just for fun type thing at least thats how i look at it.

i mean... i have downloaded a lot of mods and run them on my system, some of them very realistic, and some of them absolutely insane/just for fun.

the difference is, you dont gripe and complain about it when the going gets tough.

and im not talking about expressing "frustration" as in bad weather, bad torps, enemy aircraft or that "damn black swan"... im speaking purely about the quality or calling into question the level of realism reflected in the mod when in fact the player(s) in question are not even in the least bit concerned about realism to begin with.

i dont want to sound like im downing everyone that doesnt play at 90% and higher... im just downing the idea of players who get a mod like GWX soley based on "wow thats pretty" without even considering the fact that such a mod is intended to be difficult - and as a result of the difficulty encountered - they complain.

just annoying

GR I think ive agreed with your premise all along as stated in my first post.
no offense taken by me ever on that count.

what we do here is a wonderful hobby and it to me represents as I have
stated before a unique form of living history that is niether fish nor foul

it is not books movies documentary or archives but it promotes extreme
awareness of history which in its desire for artistic authenticity moves
to more thorough and detailed research, which by consequence leads
to the institutionalization of historys lessons to us regarding the greatest
conflict in history.

I just dig this crazy life

i think there are quite a few people out there who downloaded GWX/GWX2 simply because they wanted harbor traffic and better graphics... who care little about realism, difficulty or history

but in fact... GWX2 is a realism mod that is designed to make the game more challenging and more reflective of real u-boat activities. its not just an eye candy/ arcade/kiddie mod.

it annoys me that (even a few) people complain about the tougher realism or the increased difficulty in the GWX series. A lot of talented people put many months of hard work into making a mod that is based on historical accuracy and realsim, and then, upon discovering that the game is more difficult because of the mod, a select few run and gun arcadeers out there have the nerve to complain about it.

so, to make everyone happy, i propose a JSGME campaign which consist of the following.

1. pick the 3 largest merchants and the 3 largest warships in the roster and they will be the only 6 ships to spawn ALL the time, even if it means 8 battleships in a convoy.

2. all AI intelligence is to be reduced by 90%, so that pretty much the only thing they can do is avoid collision and follow waypoints.

3. ASDIC range is to be decreased to a range of 1,000 meters laterally and 50 meters vertically so the player can escape any situation while exclaiming "w00t... c0nVoY p3wnd!!"

4. AI Hydrophone efficiency is to be decreased by 90% so the player can run around submerged at ahead flank all day long without worry

5. and finally, ship explosions are to be massive and i mean GOD LIKE... and every time a ship sinks the tonnage will appear over it arcade style (+10,111)

so what do you guys think?

but seriously, for the sake of players who just wish to run and gun and blow everything out of the water and there is absolutely no basis on reality but at least it looks good style "w00ters" out there... shouldnt there be a mod that changes graphics only so these "w00ters" can watch a little orange circle blow up stuff?
I bumped into this trying to find some fast plotting tips for things as true bearing and i couldn't agree more. But i must add this, if you want to play 100% in a possible way as close as RL as possible you should also in my opinion install the OLC interface. The attack disk and the range and aob finding manual instruments are really cool and it comes with a video tutorial that covers all of it. Thats the instruments they used on real U-Boats and that's how they did it. Also the Observation scope is now historically accurate and as wider view but no solution calculation tools, as it was irl. It feature new buttons and you will be amazed on how he OLC managed to do that without the game source code. Looks really great. Type OLC GUI for it in a search. It's GWX 2.0 able.
