Sh3 Gwx 2.1?

I got to thinking after reading so many posts.... which contain comments like:

"there is not enough battleships or huge merchants encountered in the campaign"

"its too realistic"

"its too hard"

"why are all the options that make the game easy gone?"

i think there are quite a few people out there who downloaded GWX/GWX2 simply because they wanted harbor traffic and better graphics... who care little about realism, difficulty or history

but in fact... GWX2 is a realism mod that is designed to make the game more challenging and more reflective of real u-boat activities. its not just an eye candy/ arcade/kiddie mod.

it annoys me that (even a few) people complain about the tougher realism or the increased difficulty in the GWX series. A lot of talented people put many months of hard work into making a mod that is based on historical accuracy and realsim, and then, upon discovering that the game is more difficult because of the mod, a select few run and gun arcadeers out there have the nerve to complain about it. :nope:

so, to make everyone happy, i propose a JSGME campaign which consist of the following.

1. pick the 3 largest merchants and the 3 largest warships in the roster and they will be the only 6 ships to spawn ALL the time, even if it means 8 battleships in a convoy.

2. all AI intelligence is to be reduced by 90%, so that pretty much the only thing they can do is avoid collision and follow waypoints.

3. ASDIC range is to be decreased to a range of 1,000 meters laterally and 50 meters vertically so the player can escape any situation while exclaiming "w00t... c0nVoY p3wnd!!"

4. AI Hydrophone efficiency is to be decreased by 90% so the player can run around submerged at ahead flank all day long without worry

5. and finally, ship explosions are to be massive and i mean GOD LIKE... and every time a ship sinks the tonnage will appear over it arcade style (+10,111)

so what do you guys think? :arrgh!:

but seriously, for the sake of players who just wish to run and gun and blow everything out of the water and there is absolutely no basis on reality but at least it looks good style "w00ters" out there... shouldnt there be a mod that changes graphics only so these "w00ters" can watch a little orange circle blow up stuff?

hey work yer own side of the street.......:rotfl:

Seriously you hit it on the head with the statement

" GWX2 is a realism mod that is designed to make the game more challenging and more reflective of real u-boat activities."

in truth sooner or later somebody maybe even myself will make a
detuned version but for right now Im just loving classic play for a
little while. and I couldnt be more grateful to those that have laboured
so long and hard on the wonderful level of detail.

GR In spite of my seeming flare for the unauthentic I am a history student
first and I feel that modern society makes for uhm ....uhm........
lethargic shall we say mentalities. "Why do it the hardway when
we can have it handed to us."

partly I suppose that psychology is the origin of game modding

I often chide that the world owes a great debt to lazy people
they have invented all major technologies since the plough

Good post gr

If someone doesnt like the details and gameplay of gwx, the best they can do is to search a little bit around the net and find few mods and install them on clean sh3.I think there are enough arcade mods that would do the trick.

Who's complaining of a dearth of capital ship targets? On my very first GWX2 patrol, I encountered and sank at sea a task force of 1 Southampton and 2 auxiliary cruisers. Mind you, I was killed by the escorts of a convoy on the same patrol. In my next career, I have sunk a battleship on each of the first 2 patrols; I am still at sea on patrol 3, so we have yet to see what else I may encounter. There's no shortage of targets, you just need to know how to hunt, which requires patience and determination, something lacking from arcade style of play.

:rotfl: I think its this feverish need people experience; wanting to download the latest and greatest in the MOD world without really looking at what type of game play they are seeking.

When I first started with SH3 about 11 months ago, I did DL a lot of MODS just for heck of it....I didn't know squat about how SH3 ran, what did what. After awhile I got around to thinking....hmmmmm....do I want to play the sim...or just try out MODS.

So now I have picked out a few fave mods and play the game. GWX 2.0 solved a lot of problems for me. One mod and I am off into a career.

Well what ever floats their boat....errmmmm....sub...whatever...Happy Holidays! Ex-Mod-Download-Junkie....in recovery.:rotfl:

I must be the unluckiest of all.(note i still dont have gwx 2.0 :damn::damn::damn: ) All in all in gwx 1.03(in witch i played around 2 months) i had encoutered 2 battleships and one carrier, never sunk the bbs, but the carrier wasnt so lucky :)

BUt in anycase i download very carefully mods since my speed is rather SLOW, i first read everything about something before downloading. But since i got 1.03 i installed only few other candy mods (openhatch ).

Any gamer must first think out what he want subsim or action game, since subsims arent nonstop action, especially when i 2+ months patrols, but when you hear shipspottet(in german) oh what a feel.Anyhow i am new sh3 fan but damn loyal one !

it just makes you work harder on getting yourself in best attack position to do this :)

it is frustrating about not being able to bag a massive BB but one has to consider the HUGE number of subs which went out on one or two patrols before being sunk and never even attacked ANYTHING, let alone a BB or fleet carrier... it was just something that didnt normally happen.

sinking a battleship in real life as a ww2 sub driver is about as much chance of a HOT super model ringing my door bell with the complaint that she is all randy and nobody wants to "do her" and asking if i can "help her out"... it might happen... but the chances are simply astronomical!!!

hey, ill be right back somone is at the door.

While I do not play on the hardest difficulty settings (I have stuff like unlimited fuel, batteries, air, and the like, but have on realistic vulnerability, repair times, duds, reload speed, etc), I DO like a decent challenge.

That is why I've done things like use only a Type II, or go harbor raiding (if the port's deep enough, I'll go in a Type IX).

Harbor raiding, in vanilla, hell, even up until GWX2, was a piece of cake. The only risk was from storms (and not being able to see anything out of the scope) and from subnets and mines. The ASW was, for lack of a better word, horrid. Even until 1945, I could find ways into ports and leave, undetected.

GWX2 has changed all of that. ASW is now a real pain in the ***. I mean, it's a serious pain in the ***. It has weak points, even into the later months of the war, and holes that can still be exploited, but there is almost none of the margin of error that I was allowed in previous releases.

But sometimes I like to have fun, so I just go into the .cfg files and allow myself something like the Type XXI from the start of the war. Makes harbor raiding difficult (if it's anything less than a calm sea, you can't raid a habor in the XXI....it's just too big), but makes it real fun. Especially when you also allow yourself to have acoustic homing torps for those pesky DDs. Heh.

Hehe I'd pay good money for that, even if it was just for laughs :rotfl: Maybe with COMBO x2 text if you score two hits close together

Just joking, still trying to finish my current career in 1.03 I'm already in the middle of '44.

I must be a very lucky guy, then. I've had hot chicks jump me when I was a young man; totally minding my own business and these randy chicks hit on me. Course nowadays I'm a married man and don't play the field, but I do get my fair share of taskforce sightings and capital ships in convoys.

Axe body spray is awesome, but this strange gold band on my left ring finger has some sort of hex put upon it which renders all manner of tag, and axe potions completely useless!

strange

Btw does anyone have information on the real hydrophone range ? I know it probably ranges cause of different weather conditions but now i am reading das boot, and it seems they dived when visibility was really low.
