My information:
Age: Almost 20, in July
Location: Kansas City, MO
Bio:

I was always interested in world war 2, but never knew anything about the battle of atlantic, or, subarmines. It started around my birthday waaay back when SH2 was first released (I think I was about 13). I was shopping at Best Buy for a present with my Grandma, when I saw a kick-butt box cover for Silent Hunter 2. Interested I picked it up and got it for my birthday.

Returning home, I popped it into my computer and installed it and went to play. Nothing. I later realised my computer was too slow/ no video card, not enough memory or anything. I purchased a new computer (2 new ones since!) with my birthday money and reinstalled it and began playing it.

Never playing one before or knowing what I was doing, the first mission, the Polish Flotilla, i thought they would sail right into me. I used time compression and everything. But I never selected a speed or anything (I really didn't read into the manual). After about 5 minutes I gave up. I began reading the stories in the SH2 manual and became really interested, and in the very back of the manual was links to sh2fleet.com and subsim.com

I joined the Wolfpack League, and played and learned new things. Finally Destroyer Command came out, I got that and played it also. After another 6 months after that I was soon the Flotilla Commander for the 3rd flotilla of the WPL.

Things slowly dwindled down, and I became a full-time reader here. Around 2004 I began developing my own indie-subsim located at my website in my signature.

I play SH3 and Lord of the Rings online, but my heart now lies in subsims!

I can't wait until October to meet all you other subnuts!

Me showing off a few of my hobbies, as well as circles under my eyes from two nights of U-boat Missions

On the left edge of the pictures is also the stack of folders with my thesis work, the bane of all gaming

I stumbled on the deep domain site as a result of Jim someone or anothers
silent hunter com site YEARS ago when orig SH came out.

signed up here just b4 or right when sh2 came out.

Was concerned about buying and getting involved in another german subsim after aod.
in the heyday of AOD, there were a number of websites that not
only used the swastika, but used the game to lead to and promote Neo Nazi ideals.
indeed id swear i remember DL'ing sumthing for the aod t21 upgrade that said it would read your puter to id if you were a jew...

Neal Stevens effectively pre empted all of this BS, , "no swastika's!"
and instantly removied my concern of whether or not i was dealing with
sub simmers or neo nazi wackjobs.

thanks for that !

Quick life update without starting a new thread - the biggest challenge of my last couple of months came to results for me - and I just got news today that I've just been accepted into a PhD program I had been trying so hard to get into Seeing how I'm only 23 years old, that's a really cool and BIG deal for me. And they're giving me enough funding to live comfortably (by frugal-but-reasonable 20-something standards) while I do it

It's a Les Paul knockoff :p It has a (practically invisible) cosmetic defect, so it was quite cheap, and I had it tested out by my dad (professional guitarist etc.) before getting it.

I'm actually terrible at playing it so far. Partly cause I don't have time to learn properly, with all this other stuff I'm doing
