Everybody's got one... (Or two, or three...or like me, more)

Post 'em here. I'm interested in seeing what everybody likes.

Just a couple of mine:

Saleen S302 Yellow Label - It's a Mustang...and it puts out 625 horses....and it's Saleen. I'm a big fan of Saleen's stuff.

Saleen S7 - While we're on the topic, I figure I'd include one of the best supercars ever (IMHO)

Ford GT - The other Great American Supercar

Ford Escort Mk. 1 - Ford Europe gets the cool compact cars. It's apparent that i'm a Ford guy I guess.

1965 Shelby GT350 - C'mon. It's a Shelby Mustang.

1973 Ford XB Falcon GT - Mad Max and the guys down under got another really cool car that we didn't get up here. I'd totally get a Mad Max replica.

1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo - This thing is a beast with the twin turbos

Audi S1 Quattro - You can't like cars and NOT like the Audi Quattros

2005 Saleen N2O Focus - Back to Saleen....taking my favorite (only) car i've ever owned (and fell in love with even though mine was a sedan) and making it awesome. Way better than the SVT Hatchback

This is just a few.

Some realistic...most not.

You can get those in the St. Louis area...little turbo cars...for very little.

You can get one easy for under $2k

Nice little cars. I don't see very many out my way but I like them. Not so much the convertible models but still.

I considered going to look at some of the coupe models for sale.

@BossMark....I didn't like any of the Corvettes until I saw that new Stingray model. That thing is freakin' sweet.

Hmmm, you know they're GM/Vauxhall, and that means they're not the robust inventions they once were, and virtually no modern car is 'simple low maintenance'. (smaller cars may be the exception here)

For me, ever since I saw one in Germany in 2000/01 I've wanted a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4.

I got one of those in the early 80s. It burned more oil than fuel after a while

but what a lot of fun in the backseat. We were young and had no money...

There's only 2 cars I've ever wanted. A '66 GTO and a '68 Shelby GT 350 4 speed convertible. I have the '66 GTO now, but the Shelby is only a dream to own.

This GTO now is a 400ci/400hp, 4 speed HT Coupe. The custom paint with airbrushed flames was on it when I bought it in June of 2007. Baltimore built 3rd week of 66. It replaces my 1st 66 GTO I totaled back in of April 1971.

Thanks Wallace. I get it out just about every weekend for a show or a cruise night. Mainly cruise nights as the car shows around here are getting too expensive.

What motor is in it? 400ci sounds like quite the party.

But serious how many MPG does one get out of such a beast? I mean back then no one cared for fuel efficiency so I would imagine that that thing is quite expensive to move around.

You are right about the reduced fuel efficiency of the " Hot Rods". You might be amazed however at the fuel mileage some of these cars can get with the addition of Overdrive transmissions and add on throttle body fuel injection systems or a multi port fuel injection system. If you know what you are doing, you can build your own multi port fuel injection systems from a standard " wet " intake manifold made for carburetors . There are a number of manufacturers who specialize in making stand alone electronic and computer systems to tie everything together and make it all work. This is a popular swap and add on for older cars that have been restored.

A manufacturing firm in Germany makes what is called the ZF 5 and 6 speed manual overdrive transmissions. They have been used in the Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvettes and enjoy an excellent reputation. If the rear end ratio is matched well with the transmission, The RPM's can be held below 2000 at a cruising speed of 65 MPH. This translates into surprisingly good fuel mileage.

On the other hand, if you live in Germany and have and drive on the AutoBahn and your cars like the Porsche , Mercedes and BMW's travel at the speed of light, then there isn't much that's going to help fuel efficiency although they also do pretty well.

Schroeder, mileage depends on your foot and the gearing in the rear. I'm running a 3:55 gear set and at 70 mph it's pushing 3300 rpm. Not very good for mileage. I'm planning on going to a 3:36 grear set that will lower the rpms. 255/60 15s re on the back end that helped lower the engin3 rpms by 300 too. And back in 1970 with my first 66 GTO gas was only 32 cents a gallon. So yeah, we didn't car about gas mileage. LOL

Sounds pretty great! That's good that it isn't too fuel sensitive. Nothing like going for a drive and not being able to find 93 Octane. That octane booster stuff they sell at gas stations isn't the same.

Have you dynoed it or is that just an estimate of power?

You never mentioned if your car has an automatic or manual transmission. If it's a " stick " you can find manual transmissions with overdrive that will enable you to keep your current rear end drive set. That might be cheaper and easier than finding a 12 bolt unit for your " goat. "

If you have an automatic, you can get an early 200/4R that also has an overdrive unit of .67 to 1. The 200/4r can be built without needing a computer to control the lockup feature for the torque converter. The valve body can be built to do it or a simple switch can be used at cruising speed to engage the lockup.

* Caution * You also would need to put in a new brake switch at the pedal that would have provisions that when the brake pedal was pushed, an electrical impulse would disengage the lock up feature. Otherwise, it would be like trying to stop with a manual transmission and not using the clutch.
