The reason why he is a former tea partier is explained in his rant about how the movement has been taken over by the very people it thinks it is against...which is the same reason he gives as to why he isn't a republican anymore. |

No riots in America? A sample over 200+ years, in no particular order:
Cincinnati, 1855 The Battle in Seattle Days of Rage 1742 Election Riot in Philadelphia 1979 White Night Riot We're perfectly capable of blowing up. The difference is, we tend to come back together again. On 9-11, it would have been perfectly logical to think that New Yorkers would have taken advantage of the chaos of that morning, but by and large, they didn't. The OP takes a rather dim view of us, for one who claims to speak for us. I've seen more of my neighbors helping each other during community crises than exploiting each other.

Merely posted as a discussion point, nothing more, nothing less. My views of the US are far from gloom and doom and oppression and inferiority. Or a view of suppression or losing all sense of reality. Or exerting it's muscle upon the global scene. Far from it. My views of the US are of Miami, Florida, where my parents and I were many moons ago, before emigrating to Australia. The US was one place my parents had considered as a final destination. I have a lot of respect for the US. It's people, it's geography. It's history. Oh especially it's history. I have American friends, and have met many a US citizen, whom i have all enjoyed conversing with. |

We had some pretty wild race riots in the US back in the 1960s. Watts. Detroit. Philadelphia. Camden. D.C. Newark. Atlanta. And let's not forget the "police riot" in Chicago in 1968. Last riot that I can recall that wasn't a bunch of jackwagons celebrating a sports victory/defeat was almost 20 years ago: Los Angeles, 1992. I'm certain that there will be others in the future. There's no shortage of "anger" in many cities, and, as history has demonstrated over and over, "anger" provides opportunity for some.
Where the doomsayers (both foreign & domestic) get it wrong (in my opinion) is that they fail to take into account the underlying resiliency of a free society. As much as we may bitch and moan about things, its mostly about things we believe others (including the government) don't deserve, and that we want for ourselves. Although these tensions make for some anxious days from time to time, such temperaments have never been fatal to an orderly society bent on balancing justice and liberty. I'm reminded that 50 years ago today a wall was erected by a government to separate a people. So long as people in the United States have unfettered rights to travel within its borders, and if dissatisfied pick up and move, I don't fear our future as a free people. We'll work it out. |
