Yep, chased that for a while and never made visual contact. Ended up stumbling upon a convoy while trying to chase the fast merchant, meaning the DD heard me coming from miles away.

There was a time, even in the vanilla days, when I was super happy with a 30K patrol.

Started new career with gwix and got killed twice.
Started new carreer with GWX 1.o2 , it became obsolete with 1.03.

Now, well trained and afraid--very afraid, I'm on tenth patrol and scooping great tonnages.

We grow together with GWX. The GWX ghouls ( :rotfl: ) keep tossing nasties our way. But we get better, too.

Courage, mes amis (As we say in Lorient) we will win this war
Heh heh. Now TURN OFF your map contacts and go patrol the mid-Atlantic.

Get tough with some REAL salt in your teeth!

Aarrgghh!!
Capt. Lehman knows how to issue a challenge , I guess I'm gonna have to turn off map cpntacts. It's just more work, more stress. Aarrgghh I guess I'm gonna have to paint the frog on my conning tower blur.

Hi guys

I've been to the caribean to find a good tanker route on the southern coast of Curazao, tankers come from the east and west and then head to the port. Most of them are American, so it's a bit useless to go there before the US enters the war.

The sad part of the story is the long journey from Europe, but tonnages around 130 K are not uncommon.

Cheers

I sank 2 medium tankers within 24hours.
Grid BF15, near the top of the grid and a little to the right of it too.
They were both inbound to england too.

edit: cool chief status!

Default Tanker Alley

I've been patrolling this area for over two weeks so far during the last weeks of November '39 through the first week of December and the only pathes I've crossed is one small and one medium merchant. I'm down to my last torpedos of this patrol and am looking to pad my tonnage totals as well. :hmm:

Wouldn't be using GWX2.0 would you?

In GWX 2.0, tanker Alley is still there but it has spread out. I just came back from there and sunk about five tankers. But you can spend a week without any traffic. It will take some more "research" to see what Big Bad Wooly (Big Boy Woolly's evil twin working in the British Admiralty dept. GWX) has done.

When you pull into port, dont lull yourself into a false sense of security, your mines and subnets are just a petty challenge for my crew and I.

My personal favorite hunting ground is BF17 from the northwest corner down to the middle, then a full zig zag patrol accross it's deep area. I then proceed to do a nice full out patrol of the square to the left of BF17 (BF16 maybe ? I forget). I do about 90% of this patrol underwater at a depth of about 20 meters. I'll spend as little time surfaced in these two grids as I can. This area for me is now the home of the largest artificial reef in the world. Pretty soon, the ships are going to have to plot around the area or they'll crash into it. There has to be QUITE a pile of ships down there by now considering the numbers I sink there.

Also... when I go a little bit to the west side of the letters/numbers BF17 and set a perfect south course, somewhere along the rout between there and where it intersects with squares near Girbraltar, I always run into tons of ships on that line. I assume this is part of what everyone is calling "Tanker Alley".

Answer: YES !!! I WANT ALL THE TONNAGE !!! ALL THE TONNAGE IN THE WORLD !!! MUAHAHAHAAA !!!!:rotfl:

Besides that, like I said, I'm in the process of creating the largest artificial reef in the world in that area so I'm doing this for the environment !! Think of all the nice new homes that coral, fish, and other sea creatures in that area will now have !
