And on a few occasions...in the air as well. They might have been airships, but they're weren't zeppelins.

Gotta love SH3. It was (and is) my first simulator besides racing sims (which I love with a passion).

Before SH3 I considered military simulators the kind of games crazy peolpe played. Nothing but nobs and gauges, and a learning curve of three years.

The mods have made it ten times better, but thats just because the initial meet with the genre made me hungry for more. More realism, more accuracy, more, more, more. But I still reckon SH3 is a great game in vanilla form.

I fully expect SH4 to be annoying in certain areas, just because I am
used to "more" now, but I also expect to love it from the get go. And when our Knights of the Mod Table get their hands on it ...

As someone who really would have liked to buy SH3 but skipped the game entirely due to StarFor... oh, maybe I shouldn't say that word ... anyway, I am very much hoping and expecting to plunk down some greenbacks for SH4, so I can finally experience for myself what all the SH3 hype was about. However, I don't want to pre-order it, and furthermore I unfortunately feel that I had better wait at least a few days or weeks after the release to make sure that UBI doesn't make a last minute move back to Starfor ... um, you know ... or include something different but equally as nasty. Just some regular, unintrusive protection (Safedisk or the like) for SH4, and I'll be happily spending the balance of my Xmas Best Buy gift card on it (in fact I've been saving the balance for just that purpose).

We all need to buy just so we can keep our moders busy. There's onl so much a delveloper can put into the game before there's no almight profit. Face it, many people today do not have the concept or want to play such a fantastic sim.

Such a thing Ubisoft integrated in "Dark Messiah of MM" as copy protection? :hmm:

A friend of mine pre-ordered that game for his brand new high-end PC but he was not able to install it because his DVD drive ignores the disc, the same with his game on my PC and with another copy of that game rented from a gameshop. Then we contacted the Ubisoft support hotline and they told us to upgrade our DVD firmware but both of us had actual firmware and new DVD drives (not DVD burners or virtual drives, copy software etc.). A look in the DM forums at Ubisoft showed us that many other customers had the same problem and Ubisoft was unable to help or correct that problem with a patch.

At last we tested the install on my brother's three years old PC with a very old DVD drive from 2001 with never updated firmware and the installer works perfect also the game recognized the DVD in drive while starting. :rotfl:

My friend finally returned the game and got the money back, because he is not able to install the game on his mordernen PC. This incident and many others in the past taught me, never buy a game at release day or pre-order it before you not have tested it by a rented copy or in other ways.

If your gonna buy any game then support all future sub sims by buying this one!

A couple of years ago, a survey in a swedish newspaper showed that about 80 % had got illegal games from the internet.

I will for sure buy this game(legal) but I'll NOT buy it when it reach the shelf. First about ½ to a year after. Why? I don't know how things works in your countries, but here a game cost about 25 to 30 % more than it should.

A friend of mine, who has/had a computer store said once

-There will always be jerks. Produce a lowprice game. make a commercial with some famouse person e.g britney and I promise you that there will be people sleeping in tents infront of the store. Instead of taking 10 $ for this game as it's should cost you can take an overprice...let say 50 dollars.

I'm not saying that piracy is ok, but I wish that some people would calm down a little and not rushing to the store a soon a game come out.

Markus
You're SO gonna copy it. This post smells like a firebrand preach for why its ok to copy games. If you're that afraid of paying too much, buy it from the Subsim store instead. You're supporting this site and you're much less of a hypocrit, to boot.

I don't think there'll be any comparison between SH3 and SH4 at the time of release. SH3 was rushed by Ubisoft and certainly not Beta tested correctly. The end result of that was 'patch mania' which drove us all mad.

SH4 is a totally different animal. With SH4 we will be dealing with tweaks to the game and not fundemental fixing. The visual look of the game is beautiful, and significant improvements have been made to the game play elements.

Ubisoft are now saying loud and clear that once the initial batches of the game are dispatched, a basic game package will then be issued. I would therefore strongly urge Forum members to pre-order this game.

Those who wait a few months to purchase the game in order to see the Forum feedback on it will end up with the basic package and not the limited edition.

It depends where you live. In the US/Canada you get:

Limited Edition includes bonus materials:
Premium Packaging
100 page manual including reference material
Fold-out historical map of the Pacific theater
Fold out ship recognition poster
Quick Reference Card
1-hour of WWII-era documentary footage about U.S. submarines from Periscope Films on a Bonus DVD

In Europe and Australia, the package is slightly different and doesn't include the documentary DVD.

1) Better to have a working and moderately priced Basic package than an expensive Limited Edition collecting dust in the closet.

2) As long as the game itself is the same in both versions, I will be perfectly happy. And if the game itself ISN'T the same, I'd be annoyed enough to skip the game entirely ... again.

1) I'm not too concerned about CP that simply makes the game disc unreadable. I've had that happen before a few times, and just returned the game to the store and said "oh well". The only thing that concerns me is when CP installs stuff onto a machine that can cause other programs or hardware to work abnormally or not at all.

2) Testing via "other ways" sounds like espousing piracy as a testing method, which I consider to be nonsense. For example. testing a pirated version won't tell you a thing about the potential for problems with reading the installation disc that you just finished giving as an example.

You miss the point. the US price for the limited edition of the game purchased through the Ubisoft store is $49.99. In a few months time when the initial game batches have been dispatched, you'll be ordering the basic package for $49.99. The game will be identical. It's a question of whether you want the game plus goodies for $49.99 or just the basic game for $49.99. If you want the goodies, order now.

Same price, eh? Interesting ... I didn't know that. Still, take the references to price out of my previous post and my real point is still just as true; it's better to buy working software (or save your money and have no software) than to buy dust collecting software. Moreover, a few dollars worth of SH4 goodies don't mean nearly enough to me to risk messing up the many thousands of dollars worth of existing functionality of my computer by installing something that hasn't had public testing and discussion ... I'll let someone else take that risk with their system instead, thank you.
