![]() Quote:
How dare you call me a gentleman!?! Do I go around calling you names ?... ...and I'd tell you just how marvelously modest and humble I am, but, you know... modest and humble,,, ![]() There was nothing gentlemanly or modest about my post; it was just pure forgetfulness. I was a bit stunned by your pointing out my prior post because I had completely forgotten about the particulars and also because it reinforced something about which I have been concerned for a bit of time. I have noted a seeming loss of memory over the past two or so years and it has apparently become more noticeable in recent months. I had tried pointing the issue out to my doctors but they just passed the matter off as just a by-product of aging (my most recent visit, two days after my 69th birthday was highlighted by a doctor half my age saying "Well, your getting up there,eh?"); the problem is, I have been known for having a very strong memory and now I find myself losing track of daily matters and more recent memories. I tried volunteering for an Alzheimer's national study being conducted by a local university's medical center; my mother had died of complications of Alzheimer's and I thought, if I am losing memory, possibly due to the disorder, I might as well try to offer my participation in order to make some sort of contribution to research; even though I met all the requisites for participation, I was turned down because the study requires any participant to have a 'study partner', someone, a family member or close friend, who is in regular observational contact with the participant and can document the participant's progress or decay; since I have no one who is in anywhere near regular contact with me (I have become a bit of a recluse since ailments have occurred in recent years), I am not eligible for the study. On my most recent visit to my doctors, they have now become concerned, also, and are starting to take my concerns seriously; I am now scheduled to start my New Year's 2020 with a cranial MRI to be conducted tomorrow, 2 Jan. My big fear now is they'll do the scan and find my skull is empty... So, again many thanks to you, fumo30; your pointing out of my prior post has given me one more significant bit of evidence I can wave in front of my doctors' noses... ![]() While looking through the YT listings, I came across a rather sad discovery. Kim Shattuck, a singer/songwriter/guitarist, who was based here in the Los Angeles area, passed away this past October after battling ALS for the last two years at the age of 56 years old. She was best known for being the frontwoman/guitarist for her band, The Muffs, and for her participation in bands like The Pandoras and The Pixies. She toured around the world and was very highly regarded by fellow musicians and songwriters. She was described as a 'force of nature', who had probably the best rock & roll scream in the business and a growling vocal style that reminded me of Crrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls, with the same raw force and energy. She apparently kept her condition a secret for the past couple of years and her passing, and the cause, came as a surprise to many who knew her personally, and to many of her fans... I'd seen Kim play live with both The Muffs and The Pandoras and it is a bit of a shock to realize that strong, vibrant, energetic person is no more; it just doesn't seem possible or fair... RIP, Kim, you will be sorely missed and well remembered by those who knew and saw you... <O>
