I'm really enjoying this series. I'm especially looking forward to

the scene in the finale where Kate Lethbridge-Stewart shows the Cybermen that she means business by showing them a destroyed Cyberman head from The Invasion.

Just watched this weeks on bbc iplayer, a episode about dimensions and.

Well a slight up u-turn for me.

Trailer for next weeks episode looks awful to me.

Catch up on BBC3 8pm tonight or as I did on iplayer.

It's been a poor season for me with only two good episodes and one so-so. Just hope the final is a good one in a few weeks time.

Given the writer and the fact that the Cybermen are in it I've not got my hopes up for it, if I'm honest.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the Daleks and Cybermen as a villain...buuut, Moffat has shown he's not that brilliant at writing for them. The last decent Dalek episode was the 'Stolen Earth/Journey's End' pair, and the last decent Cybermen episode was 'Nightmare in Silver', neither of which were made by Moffat.

Well, Moffat hasn't actually written a Cyberman story yet. The closest he's gotten is The Pandorica Opens and The Name of the Doctor, which both featured Cybermen, but not as the main villains, so we don't really know what a Cyberman episode from him will be like.

Also, anyone else recognize the design of the red window in Missy's room?

EDIT: As for Dalek stories, I think that Victory was rather good (yeah, I like the New Dalek Paradigm), although that was written by Mark Gatiss, not Moffat.

Pretty much all the Dalek stories after Evolution of the Daleks have had problems. The Stolen Earth and Journey's End show Davros as he normally is, when in Remembrance of the Daleks he's a head in a Dalek Emperor casing (which kinda raises the question of why there's a different Emperor in Parting of the Ways). Also, if the Daleks of the New Dalek Empire were grown from Davros' cells, why do they view him as inferior? And wouldn't he have programmed the Daleks to view him as their leader, like in Revelation of the Daleks? Anyway, apart from that, The Stolen Earth and Journey's End are probably my favourite RTD Dalek stories.

Victory of the Daleks has those new Daleks, which I think are beautiful, but everyone else hates, so I guess it still counts as a problem.

City of the Daleks and Asylum of the Daleks both show Skaro still existing, despite being blown up by the Hand of Omega in Remembrance (or was that Antalin that blew up?). The only explanations given for Skaro's survival are in War of the Daleks, which sounds like a valiant but convoluted story, and the fan animation The Dalek That Time Forgot, which isn't officially recognized as canon.

The only post Evolution stories I can think of that don't cause headaches when you think about them are The Only Good Dalek and Into the Dalek, and even they raise questions (why did the Daleks mass-produce the New Paradigm casings, then go back to the Time War casings?).

I'm not confident. Since Moffat has become producer as well as writer, his quality of writing has dramatically declined. The Doctor Dances and The Empty Child were good episodes, The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink were good episodes...but the rest? Pretty sub-par...I once thought it might have been Matt Smith, who I really didn't care for as the Doctor...but now I suspect that it was a combination of both, as despite Capaldi taking over, the episodes are still very hit and miss. Particularly the ones that Moffat has written.
If Capaldi had the same chances that Tennant had, I think he would shine, the sort of scripts and production that Tennant had would be good...but...well, we'll see.

Even the character of Missy...I just don't care much for her, but I'm holding my ultimate judgment until the big reveal.

Victory...the only part I liked about that was the Daleks serving tea. The Paradigm...well, you're the first person I've met who does like it...and the whole thing of Spitfires in space...nah, it read like a kids comic from the 1950s if I'm honest.

Yeah, there have been some big gaps there...Davros's appearance you can skip over a little because you could say that there was more of his body below the Dalek casing.

Another good point, I must admit I did ponder why the leader and creator of the Daleks would have been reduced to a basement dweller...then again, one of the first things his creations did in Genesis was to turn on him, but like you say, he probably would have learnt and programmed them to obey him.

I called them the Mighty Morphin' Power Daleks...I stick by this assesment, and the fact that they've not been seen again would indicate that they weren't particularly well received.

Agreed, and another, more recent plot hole is Gallifrey itself. In 'The End of Time', the Timelords are shown to have pretty much lost the plot, to consider taking everyone down with them, Rassilion is shown as somewhat of a megalomaniac (although I did enjoy Daltons portrayal of him) and the Timelords are essentially warriors in a war that has lasted a very very long time, the war itself has changed them, and not in a good way.
So, the Doctor pushed them and Gallifrey back into the time-locked Time War, where it stayed...until 'The Day of the Doctor' where it was removed from its time-locked status and put in a form of stasis....where it seems to be ready to be removed from that stasis...or something...because of the crack in reality which was explored in 'The Time of the Doctor'...so if and when Gallifrey does return...if it hasn't already...then we've got a race of Timelords ready to kick arse and rule the universe with an iron fist.

Indeed...which is why I just wish and pray that they'd drop the Cybermen and Daleks and focus on another race...we had the Ice Warriors and the Zygons come back for one episode before being dropped again, The Sontarans made a brief appearance and are now only used for comic relief in the form of Strax...oh, and two episodes of the Sarah-Jane Adventures.
Draconians have been mentioned in passing but not seen, there is an entire universe full of monsters that the Doctor can grapple with, foes that he has fought before and that fans would delight to see in action again in a greater better format...but, no, it's always the Daleks or the Cybermen, because they are a surefire money earner...it's like Star Trek and the Borg.
Still...we'll see, but I'm not getting my hopes up if I'm honest.

Just so long as they don't resurrect the "Zarbi"... remember them?

Yep, one of my favourites episodes! They did a good story and created something quite new for that time!

I have to agree. Yes, there were serious problems given the almost non-existant budget and the limitations of effects at the time, but the story itself was good and they did the best they could with what they had. Overall I liked The Web Planet.

My point exactly! And even with low budget the choreography of the moth people as they costumes were well done!
And we got one of the first episodes that the main villain knows what the Doctor is and fears him (I think, writing of memory)!
