I see alot of similarities between San Fran and Baltimore, elaboration ahead.

Patriots are more vulnerable than in years past, keep the faith. The Ravens defense is up there with the 49ers, and better than the Steelers, while Bradys line is not what it was in years past.
Ravens are one of 3 San Fran losses, and that is nothing to shake a stick at.

San Fran got 13 wins with only one "pretty" game, which was a 48-3 blowout of Tampa.

All the "pretty team, stat monsters" are pretty much gone. Right GB and NO?

Sure Flacco is not great (or the scond coming of Jesus, like Tebow), but he is adequate, (once again I draw the parallel to SF with Alex Smith. Defense, and takeaways wins championships.

Plus both are coached by a Harbaugh, which makes them awesome no matter what.
What a great superbowl story that would be. Like the civil war brother against brother! I am rooting for that outcome. 2 monster defenses facing off, neither team is the NFL's golden boy. I love the prospect of it.
I like your analysis. It would be interesting Harbaugh again Harbaugh. There will be no note sharing!

Like when SF played Pittsburgh? Thanks for that by the way

That was really a crucial win.

http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_point_spreads.shtml

Since when are the 49ers actually favored to win?

Seriously. They were supposed to be a 7 win team at best.

I find that spread generous. Being a Jersey boy, I am in the middle of Giant country (man am I hearing it, such cocky bastards, now I know why people hate Yankee fans)

It is not that I lack faith in my team, but I cannot believe it until I see it. I am still getting over the disbelief of beating New Orleans.

Giving 7 points to Baltimore? Seriously?

I am dropping a bill on Baltimore. They will win outright.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Just like the baseball version
PITCHING WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

My prediction (as well as my hope):

The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in the Super Bowl.

A battle of epic defenses, and a brotherly brawl between John and Jim Harbaugh.

Would be an awesome story after hearing so much hype about high powered QBs like Brees and Rodgers, and Tebowmania.

Outside of New England, the only teams left are defense oriented.

Perhaps if you are a fan of either of those teams or if you live in one of those two markets. For the rest of us it would be a Superbowl decided by the score of 10-7.

Yes some bias as you well know.

But if they are the best teams at the end then they deserve it.

A Harbaugh vs Harbaugh matchup would not be boring for niner or Raven nations.

Or do you want another boring Patriot Packer SuperBowl, with Bellicheck being overhyped for 2 weeks, and Rodgers being made into Jesus without the cross?

Or 2 teams who were given no chance in hell, who overcame all odds?

I go for the latter

Not all of us find explosive offenses, and 40 points scored per team exciting.

Defense is a skill as well.

Sure, defense wins championships. However, defensive struggles tend to make for lousy viewing unless you have an interest in one of the teams. If San Fran had a Peyton-esque passing game and was putting up 40 points, you'd be extolling the virtues of high-scoring football.

I would not be able to with a straight face after seeing who went home last week.

I do see your point on viewership though.

Oh, sure you would. When did I become all about the 'West Coast' offense? When the Eagles started having some success in using it. Once you see your team doing well, you view whatever gameplan they use favorably. That's just natural. If Alex Smith comes back next season throwing 350 yards a game, you'll be all about that. I would be too if I was a San Fran fan.

It would apply in 99% of cases, even in me 7 years ago.

But I am a valid believer in defense, in sports and war. I even turtle in strategy wargames

Here's why.
I am a Yankee fan, and years ago it was cute scoring 14 runs a game and blowing folks out.

But teams began out pitching them, and despite the superstars and the budgets they lost.

I watched with my own eyes the Devils win the Stanley cup twice on the back of Martin Brodeur and his hall of fame worthy goaltending.

I grew up watching Jerry Rice, and Montana and Young.
I fell in love with the offense, of course I did!
But to Neglect Haley, Norton, and Lotts importance in those dynastic teams is shortchanging them.

Even today defense is underrated, all you are hearing about is Giants and Eli, and Patriots and Brady.

Late Edit: A qb is useless without his brothers in arms, on both sides of the ball.
Ravens and Niners have more than proved you do not need a Manning brother or Brees to win.

Seriously, Flacco and Alex Smith? Championship game. It is like a bad joke on the NFL marketers, who have been blowing smoke up certain high powered QBs backsides for the past few years.

10-7 super bowl? Looks like two equally matched teams. I thought that's what the process of elimination is supposed to do. Lopsided blow out are not much fun either. In fact, these are more boring IMO. No hope of winning or making a game of it. Denver Patriots game was just awful. Belichick in true form just keeps on drilling the opponent. Leaves in the first string players when it is not warranted. I hope the Ravens get the opportunity to drill the patriots to China. 33-10 blow out would do nicely. I would love to see the 49ers in there. Ravens and 49ers would be fun. Then again...I'm a bit biased.

Again, I get what both you and AVG are saying. However, two points:

(1) I never claimed that football was a star-oriented game, ie NBA basketball. OF course it is a team game. It is only that I find low-scoring affairs to be dull unless my team is involved in said affair. Frankly, I feel the same way about a no-hitter.

(2) Both of your teams still have 60 minutes of football to play before you are faced with the prospect of a Superbowl appearance. Cross the bridge when you get there.

AVG, in terms of putting the backups in, I am never in favor of this. So long as the other team is fielding players, it is your job to play all four quarters. I know why teams do it (namely saving key players from potential injuries), but it always tastes bad to me.

Yes sir!

60 minutes left indeed. Yes I am Nervous. Eli Manning is the real deal. Just as Tom Brady is.

I think what I have been nailing too much (annoying yes, sorry) is that SF and to a lesser extent Baltimore was not supposed to be here.

Yet they are.

I understand you are trying to be a voice of reality. But in all honesty, I never thought SF would beat New Orleans.
That just showed me that a team like Baltimore can beat a high powered new England. And the 49ers can down the so called "elite" Eli Manning. (we did before)

Maybe my logic is based on faith, but SF has shown me nothing but hard fought victory and heart.

SF and Baltimore are 2 not so good teams who got this far on heart, and dedication to the team and the coaches alone. That is why I root for them.

Logic tells me it should be a NE vs NY Superbowl. But Murphy and his law has been a factor in this years playoffs so far.

I understand it would be boring to you. But exciting to others.

Remember the Yankees vs Mets World series? I loved it!

The rest of the country thought it stunk though.
