Magua,

You need to understand that you are running a computer game on your PC. There are no "fractions of people". Playing a computer game is a personal experience viewed and enjoyed differently by everyone. SH3 tries to accommodate a broad range of features for everyone, so it's both a simulation, a shoot'em up and a fanatasy game / secret weapons of the Kriegsmarine (remember, you can do war patrols with an XXI and a VIIC/42!).

Dividing people for their personal prefferences for a computer game serve no useful purpose than trying to identify oneself in a superior / elite category. I can understand that for politics / economics or philosophy principles. But for a computer game, no.

There was no dividing into factions on my account. It happened automatically as people placed their posts. Go back and read it. You have those that do and those that don't do the drills.
All i did was make a comment about what was already obvious.

Lighten up fella. Stop criticising everyone else for not playing the game your way. You've done this in a few threads now.

Just enjoy the game your way, and let others enjoy it their way. They don't need you to force feed facts and figures down their throats and highlight their every non-conformance with history.

And if you're not happy with some element of the game, like ship contacts, there is nothing stopping you from modding it yourself, rather than whining about it and having a go at the people who mod the game FOR FREE for people LIKE YOU.

And BTW, yes, I do test dives and follow historical procedures as per the U-boat Commander's Handbook and other references I happen to have read.

@ Magua
There is a fine line between Realism and playablity....there is a broad spectrum of players out there ranging from the hardcore realism guys to the arcade player. It's hard for modders to get the balance just right so we dont alienate a group of players. If you dont like the road we are going down ( trying to Please a larger part of the community ) No one is forcing you at gun point to download GW and play it.

I think that some of us forget that we are PLAYING a game - even though we call it a sim. We all enjoy playing this game at different levels. some of us like making subs fly through the air and some enjoy following history as close as possible. Most fit someplace in between and even change the level of realism. Its all in fun and enjoyment. I like playing and checking out the forum, not only am I having fun but feel that I am learning about history.

One can always do ones own modding, the version of sh3 i run is heavily custom modded for my personal use.

Anyhow guys lets stick to the topic and keep the flames down

As for myself i often do drills to add to my own sense of immersion. typicaly a shallow dive, then a crash dive followed by going deep to make sure everythings screwed on tight. Then ill typicaly blow tanks to make sure its working right, and usualy end off with deck and flak drills. Ill also check fuel consumption and see how she handles, and i dont run SH3 commander with (or without) the sabotage thing.

I like doing it as it enhances my gameplay experience.

I also do one Deep Dive near the beginning of every patrol, though I haven't did it as a Crash dive. I guess I'm hoping crew could find some loose rivets, so to speak.

On a personal note, I always wanted to find a way so that by crash diving in game and doing these drill would in fact have benefits i.e. better staminer for crew or better morale.

At one point I was pondering on the idea that fatigue could be gradually lowered on surface operations and upped on dives.

This meant that my men would be losing their battle readiness on surface when staying there too long and then they will gain readiness once they crashed dive drilled and underwent dive operations etc.

Never did finnish it

Anyway every now and again I must admit that I do some pre operation drills but I can also understand why others do not bother.

I am sure that with Hemisents new mod, this is a essential thing to do.

Oh, got to get me one of those. Does Subsim have an amazon affiliate link for books like this?
