I play at 100%, but there's one thing I suggest anyone do (as mentioned in an earlier post), turn off the opportunity contacts! The game feels much more realistic and I spend a lot more time actually having to search rather than simply waiting for the next red square to show up on my map. I keep the convoy and task force contacts on, since those would have been radioed to you. But turning off the opportunity contacts is the single most realistic thing I think I've done.

I sure don't.
![]() But I wasn't, and I don't so I leave those two realism options off. I can't remember the exact % of my realism. It's probably around 70%. |

Yes he did on submerged attacks. Take a couple of scenes from das Boot. In one scene the boat is surprised by a Destroyer. The Captain goes to Periscope depth and while peering through the scope calls out by himself and with no help: speed, angle on the bow, bearing, and range. In another scene, the surface attack, it is the First Watch Officer who looks through the UZO to call out all of the data. Once the data was called out it would be inputted into the TDC by other crewman. You simulate calling out the data to your TDC operator by clicking the check symbol. If you don't like a movie for a source the same can be found in the following books: Iron Coffins U-Boat Commander Steel Boats Iron Hearts Wolf U-Boats by David Miller Another Place Another Time and the list goes on! |

I have never played at anything but 100%, except for two times where I played missions for 5 minutes a piece to see what I looked like with a periscope out of the water. I have not watched with the camera...I consider it something which I will do on the next campaign,....as I am going to create a journal of sorts with pictures for entertainment of self and friends.

I've played with 100% "realism" on several ocasions, but I find it more fun with the "event camera" turned on... although it does have the potential for cheating, I like to see things blow up to much to let it go
![]() As of late I'm fooling around with the Idea of turning on the weapons officer and have him do his job, since I don't consider that as "unreal", but I don't know if that will hurt my renown too much. |

The problem with the WO is that he is instant and accurate. With WO help all you must do is stick up your periscope for less than 2 seconds and fire away and if the fish run well than your gaurented a hit. Without WO help you have to track the convoy/ship, prepare to attack it and observe it before the attack.
So whilst it is unrealistic not to have a WO helping you, the SHIII WO is even more unrealistic. Thats why I dont use him.

I am determined to play only on 100% realism now . Unfortunately if i was really in WW2 kreigsmarine i would probably have been fired out of the torpedo tube by now .

84%. I use the Weapon Officer because I'm just to lazy to do all that math, and I like looking at my boat as it dives and other fun eye candy.
So I talk about realism a lot, but I still give in to the fun parts. |

I have mine set at 96% realism. No dud torpedos. Nothing pisses me off more than when they just plunk the side of a ship and then sink to the bottom.

100% realism is not 100% realism; it is 100% as difficult as one can play the game and that will then vary with what mods and edits you use.
When you are being tracked by 1 or 2 rated escorts and in that same convoy my 3 and 4 rated escorts with twice as many destroyers will certainly be harder to evade. If your boat can be sunk and you do not die it is hardly 100% realistic!!! I can not fathom anything less than 100%. Anyone that plays at 92% with the outside view and says he does not look for the attackers should know nearly everyone thinks you are a lier!!! :rotfl: When I am at 220 meters and 2 escorts are pinging me it goes through me like knifes; almost unbearable. I found a way to add a second instal of SH3 on my PC so I could add the new Seawolved Mediterranean add on (No, not a single stolen mod, all new stuff with many ships etc) I am advising them and beta testing and because it adds so many ships and higher res textures my old PC was too slow but I did not want to give up my original version. On this I will use the outside camera for screens but I do not play this with entensity like my "real" version. But, talking about crew ratings since I made all of mine, everyone either a 3 or 4 and when I installed Seawolves Med, I went around the Eastern med in a 23rd Flotilla boat. I headed to Alexandria Still at 100%)for alook as to what they put in the port. I ran into 6 destroyers. Well, I am use to those "Experten Englander" crews and these poncy twits were minor leauge rated. I sank four of them and had to make my way through the wrecks out to sea. The other two lost me so I let them live!!! There is such a difference in what escorts are rated it is night and day. Open your RND.mis file and SCR.mis files in Campaign folder. click edit, click "find" put in CrewRating click find next and just change them all to at least 3 and welcome to my hell!!! Not adised for Girly men that make excuses why they can't handle 100% (Whatever you enjoy is really what you should do, just kidding, Susan!!) Wulfmann
