Some epic stuff there, I think Plutos age just got revised somewhat, lots of activity on the surface and not a great deal of craters there either.
Fantastic to also get some beautifully high-res shots of Charon as well.

Looks like an impact crater at a very steep angle to me. They commonly have rebound mountains in the middle.

FYI, Charon was not named after the ferryman of Mythology, but after the discover's wife, Charlene. He only decided to stick with it after learned later that it was also the name of the ferryman and fitting for the system. But he insists it is pronounced like Sharon, not the ferryman with a K sound, and the name and pronunciation stuck. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charon_(moon)#Discovery

Default WE lose a giant at an ironic moment

http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-0719-claudia-alexander-20150718-story.html http://chicagodefender.com/2015/07/18/nasa-scientist-claudia-alexander-dies-at-56/ BEST PLACE TO POST IMHO: That such a vital leader in satellite exploration should pass just now is an irony. In 2003, she became Galileo project manager, guiding efforts to destroy the venerable spacecraft to prevent it from accidentally crashing into and contaminating any of Jupiter's moons.(obeying the "prime directive"!)
She had also served as a science coordinator on the Cassini mission to Saturn. At the time of her death, Dr. Alexander was project manager for the United States’ involvement in the international Rosetta Project, which marked the first time a spacecraft rendezvoused with a comet.

wolf_howl15 Pluto has a tail...

Dwarf planet has a tail of plasma (ionized particles of nitrogen atmo being stripped off by the solar winds)

Even way out there you're not immune to solar bombardment.

Yeah, they're smiling for the camera, but you can't help but wonder if they're thinking: " I sent a probe to 7.5 billion kilometers to Pluto for less than the cost of a NFL stadium and all I got was this pithy bumper sticker."

They said on the news, because of the great distance involved and the time it takes for signal to travel back to earth, we have only seen between 1 and 2% of the pictures Horizon has taken. Can't wait to see what's coming in the future, lol

wolf_howl15 Is it a planetoid or...

An ice cube? Pluto is shrouded in haze that extends a good distance into it's atmo and the surface shows signs of ice flows.
