If your kids are on the internet they probably already know every swear word in existence.

Agree to a certain extent. Not trying to go off tangent here or be arguementative but not all kids want to see stuff like that.
Infact, it's not just the swear words that get me, it's also the racist remarks, Nazi sympathising and personal attacks that get me more.
YouTube is a freeforall, where any point of view seems to be ok.

I'm not interested on what annoying habits go on the Internet as I'm too busy keeping an eye on my shifty Government and sending them letters voicing my concern or outrage.

Default LOLWhales do exist!

No. 1 t'interweb hate (and text messages) for me has to be alternating cApS aNd LoWeRcAsE - it is stupid, it provides no purpose other than to make it difficult to read and I usually refuse to do so.

The internet should be licensed, and have a minimum age limit of say 18 (but ideally 25) - if you don't vote, drive, pay taxes or the phone/internet bill then stay offline. Unless you're one of the more sensible, mature youths we have here at subsim.com - so maybe a test would be more appropriate, with regular checks?

This I can agree with. The internet is not safe for kids and should not be ever considered safe for kids. The internet is for adults. I hate when changes to the internet are made in the name of "keeping our children safe".

Bovine Faeces! Kids don't need an internet, kids need a controlled intra-net.

But don't infringe on what I, as an adult, can do on something as huge as the Internet Tubes, just because some parent can't control their "precious little angel".

Oh you have touched one of my nerves on this one.

As a sidebar to annoying Youtube comments, I'd like to add a mention of unintended hilarity, as a bit of a tension breaker, perhaps.

For those of us who remember or know of a movie called "Cabaret" - the 1972 movie version with Liza Minelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey - there's a wherein two of the characters are at a pub in pre-WW2 Germany. For those who don't, a quick summary: While the two characters are there, a young man rises and begins singing a song, ("Tomorrow Belongs to Me"), in a clear, strident voice. As the camera pulls back from his face, the viewer discovers that the lad is dressed in Nazi attire, and the song is, ostensibly, some Nazi piece. The lyrics of the song (in English) become militant-sounding as more people in the pub pick up the song until the whole place, minus the two main characters and one old man, are on their feet and singing, as the lad who led the thing presents the extended-arm salute. The main characters depart hastily, one remarking to the other, "So you still think you can control them?"

The whole scene is, when you're watching it, a demonstration of nationalism going terribly wrong, leading the nation towards war, without once showing a gun or a weapon or marching troops. It's a very artfully done scene, very powerful.

So. On YouTube, you can often find this scene, in various languages, taken from the movie. (As an aside, a warning to our German friends - in the linked version , the scenes have not had the swastika redacted, so I don't know if you're able to link, or should - I just don't know, so I'm adding this note because I don't know if that's a problem, and don't want anyone in trouble if it is.)

Now, the part that is, at least to me, somewhat (hilarious isn't the right word, somehow, but I can't think of what the right word is) is this. Invariably, when this scene is posted, the pro-Nazi idiots come out of the woodwork, spouting double Hs, or 88s, or whatever idiotic BS white supremacist racist nonsense like they do. This is the unintentionally funny point, because, like good little racists everywhere, they line up and drink their kool-aid and never question the authenticity of their little anthem... written by two Jewish guys for the poignantly anti-Nazi film.

So yeah, jerk-faced comments are gonna happen, but sometimes, it's nice to see the idiots come out of the woodwork so that we can more easily spot them.
