While the Pacific may become "empty" in the end, the same is not really true for the Sea of Japan.

There are plenty of people out there who think that German war machine ever made was a perfect engineered, unstoppable killing machine, and everything the Allies fielded were rusty piles of garbage the never worked.

Just ask anyone over at Stormfront, or your friendly neighborhood Christian Identity advocate.

Just provide us with a realistic periscope screen and free convoy-search option on Atlantic - in a March2010... and don't worry for another project for 3-5 years...

An open-game.

By "open" I mean :

a graphic engine

And EVERYTHING touching configuration in text files. Everything.

Every variable, every value and everything that is fed to the graphic engine (graphics, sounds, texts, textures) should be in the game folder in easily editable formats : text files for every variable used by the game engine and every graphic in standard PNG format, every sound in Ogg-Vorbis format.

They could sell new versions of the game to offer a better graphic engine and such, while everything being open it will give the game a huge possibilty of tweaking to the level of F16 Falcon.

The same concept as good Unix operating systems like OpenBSD. The configuration is all kept in one place (etc folder) and in text format.
So we could tweak each variable used and fed by the graphic and game engine.

The possibility of Silent Hunter 6 will only exist if Silent Hunter 5 is successful in terms of sales.

I doubt Ubi would sponsor an open source subsim. There's already one out there anyways.

It must have been pretty obvious to the devs that the 1943 & VII only thing was gonna incite a riot here anyway.

Exactly sir!!! No one has played SH5 yet but look at all the threads full of dread! (I was a poet and did'nt know it!). I do not think the game will be as bad as everyone thinks and a lot of jaw music at this point is unfounded. From the videos (in game) I have seen it looks good. Some arcade stuff but that is a given and usually modded out in a day Two key elements, free roam and campaign editor.

Let's wait for the first "SH5 class action lawsuit" thread before asking for the PTO
Wanting too or not, it will still happen.

It takes a lot to bring me out of hiding, but please don't make light of how "easy-mode" the Pacific campaign was...

To reiterate:
  • A total of 52 United States submarines were lost during WWII.
  • The United States submarine service sustained the highest mortality rate of all branches of the U.S. Military during WWII
  • 1 out of every 5 U.S. Navy submariners was killed in WWII (3,505 people)

Here's a list if you want to see the subs or their men along with the dates of loss: http://www.maritime.org/subslost.htm

Of those subs, about half were lost from 1944 through 1945 (the particularly easy-mode years)...

Here's how the USS Trigger's 12th patrol ended in March of '45:

"Post-war enemy records indicate that Trigger torpedoed and sank the repair ship Odate on March 27. The next day, Japanese planes and ships conducted a two-hour attack on a submarine in that area. The attack was heard by Silversides (SS-236), Seadog (SS-401), Hackleback (SS-295), and Threadfin (SS-410) in adjacent areas. Threadfin was the only one of these submarines that reported being attacked that day, and she also reported that she heard many depth charges and several heavy explosions east of her position after the attack on her ceased. Trigger was struck from the Navy list on July 11, 1945."

For added class, be sure to make fun of their ice cream maker when you talk to those guys about it...

All im going to say is, some of the willful ignorance displayed by some ATO fans here on subsim never ceases to amaze me. For the less ignorant, I would hope you find these people an embarrassment.
