Would I be considered corny if I chose a ship I have absolutely schooled things with?

Narwahl. Hands down...

I'm talking destroyer sinkers (with deck guns...fast)
Spew off your torps, blow ballast and evaporate a convoy. Yeah, Balao may be able to dive deeper, but the Narwahl can destroy "most" before you have to.

I'LL make screens later, I got SH5 open ATM.

Sheesh! Narwhal in a battle with a DD is like taking a bathtub up against a DD. The Narwhal would be blown out of the water before the DD even got in range of Narwhal's guns. At least a bathtub would be harder to hit......

Ridiculous stuff like that is why SH4 had to be modded in the first place. John Wayne tactics just aren't used with submarines. If they ever were nobody ever lived to brag about it.

You know if you want to play like that my favorite boat is Neon Deon's Pimp My Ride 2 with my Slightly Subnuclear Deck Gun. That combo holds the world's record for sinking over 100,000 tons in ten minutes. Shut down the entire 100k ton club over at Ubi forums when I posted the video and claimed an award. Narwhal my achin'......

But you have to admit, sir. It is fun every once in awhile to be an alpha predator.

My usual game of operation is WAC 4.1 or GWX. Just sometimes I want to LIVE!

My favorite ship is the Iowa and the Lexington class battlecruiser. I've liked the idea of battleship that are fast and then something popped into my head"Why didn't they just arm the Iowa with depth charges it could be it's own ASW hunting group.

My favorite ship / boat? Well there are many I have always liked. The Iowa Class BBs, Fletcher Class DDs, A lt of the Imperial Japanese Navy surface ships are very graceful in their design, with the deck and hullsides sweeping up into the bow.

Although the latter, I prefer to see through my periscope crosshairs!

Easily S-18 class subs. I don't know why but for some reason I like the feeling that even one little mistake can cost me my life as my boat is such crap

You simply cannot go head on to the battle with it (even if I mostly do so) because you can't escape and sometimes you can't even fight so you're sitting on your own luck and hope that Japs do more mistakes than you

Because for sonar to work properly the ship has to move at a maximum of 12 knots. A destroyer is considered expendable, and a u-boat will normally try to hide from it anyway. A battleship is not expendable, and a u-boat will probably shoot at a target that big and delicious moving that slowly.

It's just that it's gonna be kinda hard to kill an Iowa with 4 torpedoes.

Hard to kill maybe, but easy to risk and easy to cause a lot of casualties (by a sub that is itself manned by a few dozen men at most) and repairs requiring a lot of expense and giant drydocks. A dozen destroyer escorts could be built at the same cost and probably in the same time, and would be many, many times more effective as ASW platforms.

That's strategic thinking

With the bigger boats, it takes them longer to get up to speed, they turn in big circles compared to tin cans, and are better suited to supporting the big battlewagons, with ship to ship, and ship to shore engagements, where the brunt of their firepower can best be put to use.

Doesn't matter. One hit and the ship will have to return to port, into drydock, and be out of commission for several months. They don't risk their prize toys.

Mind you, the crew might be very happy about that 'vacation'

Reminded me of this Jurgen Oesten story from his SHIII dev inteviews...
