I suppose Trekkies are as rabid fanboys as Galactica 1970 fans are. They will never be able to see a new reimagining of their favorite series just because it breaks their old fantasies. Hey its their loss after all. The rest of us will continue to enjoy new series, with new actors and new special effects. ![]() So BRING IT ON. ![]() ![]() |

I have to agree Babylon 5 was the best scifi show. But if it wasn't for startrek who knows what we be watching now...
![]() I'm always a startrek fan but Babylon 5 was far better. I'm glad Paramount didn't listen to J. Michael Straczynski when he offered his vision because they would have kill his dream. ![]() |

I understand why the bridge looks like that now. On the startrek forum the guys are saying that spock and bones know what happens. I think they start the true Startrek beginning but something happens. Time is changed. Only those two know this issue and well that's all I know so far. So the universe we know as traditional Startrek is history and replaced with this newer parallel universe. That is why you see the different ugly bridge... and newer looking Enterprise.
If that is true they're spining off on a new universe then startrek has a new birth. I may like the change. But if there ripping us off with all this new vibe stuff in the same old startrek universe, I won't like the film because it would be a fake. |

I do not like where the movie is going but I accept that this is a "new universe"
I am a firm believer in the theory of multiple universes and the ability to influence or create another from within our own. If ST wants to go that way so be it. (Keep in mind every time they go back in time in the series they create a new universe) Voyager completely shattered the universe known as cannon. Overall tho I think the days of Star Trek in the picture format are over. It took WAY to long for Enterprise to get good (Season 3) and audiences do not have that kind of patience these days. I think Star Trek is going to live on in video gaming. People used the Bridge Commander PC game to create a slew of new stories (Including a major fan Season 5 for Enterprise) Eventually (Not with ST Online as it is now tho) I think they are going to let the fans move the series forward with games that let people write their own experiences. |

The bridge design, the ship design also, the ship being build on earth ![]() The new movie will be the XXI century vison of Star Trek, possibly a bad one. Notting to do or to tie it to TOS! For a great vision of both the movie and the new ship: http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...se_comment.htm http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/mi...xi_comment.htm and the best http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/in...continuity.htm |

Looks like the new film might be a laugh. I grew up on trek, specifically the origional series repeats and deep space nine. I like to keep an open mind, how bad can it be? (nemesis
![]() P.S. Skybird, how do you know it's going to be like bevely hills 90210 or melrose place? You must realy like those shows to recognise them from a 136 second movie trailor ![]()

Well, I am sure that I posted here before about this, but definatly not in this thread. I grew up as a Trekkie, and actually came from a Trek message board to here. TNG was my first encounter with Trek and TOS was the thing my father liked that was very corney, but should be respected. DS9 was tops, especially with the long multi-season story arcs, in depth character development, and the darkness (which some would argue that Roddenberry would have never allowed).
VOY had an interesting premis but screwed it up, with the alien of the week bit, especially the lack of continuation of consequences for their actions (which BSG did to their credit). In many ways VOY could be epitimized by Ens Kim. Lots of potential but still a low grade version of what it could have been. Not that it didn't have its shining moments, like many which involved the Doctor story arc. ENT in many ways was not Trek, because it avoided trek even though it was founded on it. You could tell with the beginning sequence, when Star Trek wasn't even used in the origonal title shot. The entire temporal war distracted it from where it should have been heading, which was the Romulan-Earth War which we never got to see. All that being said, I will watch this, to support the franchise. But I go in with mixed feelings ... cadet kirk takes command after the captain dies although multiple bridge crew with time in space sit around in shock. No wonder why his ego never seemed to fit into that chair. TOS had its old salts in The Doctor, Spock, and Scotty to balance the crazyness of Kirk and the young Chekov. Hopefully we will see the balance here. Oh, and lets avoid this: ![]()

Ahhh! Great moments of Star Trek!
![]() The thing is, in the movie, they have jet packs and do a la Ace Macleod in an action scene (Sulu to, but I still prefer the chest naked George Takei and is fencing foil)! |
