As I have explained recently, I was away over the summer because my computer and time was tied up with helping my nephews learning about how to compile, configure, modify, and admin a server for a game they love to play.

It was probably the last go at having such fun with them as the usual distractions and diseases of being a teenager have begun to set in and I go from being the "cool" uncle to just the "crazy old" uncle.

I plan on playing SH3 until the wheels fall off, so to speak. After all, it's a long way to go until 1945 and I'd like to try a career with at least one variant of each u-boat type as my primary boat, after I complete my main career that moves forward with improvements in u-boat technology. Then there's the monsun boats, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Indian Ocean, and long-haul Type IX missions to the Americas and Carribean.

And that's just with GWX! I still have NYGM, WAC, Frontflotille, and AOTD to explore, not to mention trying out online multiplayer missions.

I'd like to see an online flotilla for us old sea dogs to have as a gathering place.

I also should mention that I've noticed an influx of new recruits in the past week or two. It's easy to spot some because they're asking about using old mods that are still linked in the Subsim website. There's even been one or two familiar names that have made their presence known recently.

It wouldn't surprise me if I were the one to turn out the lights as I'm the last out the door. Until then, Brag, let's break out the bottle and toast our victories, escapes, and absent friends in service to our beloved virtual Ubootwaffe!

I'm back now but my heart has never left the North Atlantic and probably never will.

Maybe people are busy with their patrols and don't have the time to write. I'm sure we'll have a flood of patrol reports soon.

Now that I've mentioned it, gotta go and sink some ships...

"... monsun boats, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Indian Ocean, and long-haul Type IX missions to the Americas and Carribean. And that's just with GWX! I still have NYGM, WAC, Frontflotille, and AOTD ..."

Okay, so i am new HERE ... but I have a LOT of xp with Ubisoft simulators (mostly flight), but I was a long time SHII and AotD player. In fact AotD got me to play AotP and AoE so it now comes full circle .... sub sims to flight sims and back to sub sims.

Is there a thread that discusses the relative merits and contents of the various Uber-mods that you listed ... or the added patrols that are listed ? Sort of a clearing house for them ... yes i have seen the thread with all the mods listed ... but that is more of a warehouse for mods ... I am looking for a storefront with a little advertising, a screen shot, and a short description of what makes WAC different from GWX and or NYGM ... ? :hmm:

The SH4 boards aren't that busy either. Those of you who are fairly new only know what it's like when something big has been released. The way it is now is fairly normal for in-between-the-next-big-thing times.

Not everyone posts things when they visit, of course.

Considering me as an example, I've been a member here for longer than just about any regularly posting skipper (even earlier than Sailor Steve!! ), yet compare my post count with a lot of others......

You're just one of those steely-eyed men of few words, Steeltrap. You'll say what you have to say when you've got to say it.

Now where's that cute frenchie in the red dress? We need some music!

I've heard those can be seriously overrated and not worth the expense, TarJak. So don't feel as if you're missing out on too much. :p

Well I have another theory. Now, I don't want to cause any trouble. But I'll say it anyways. There's one person (whom I don't even remember seeing a year ago) that walks around the SHIII forum like he owns the place. Posting like his word is the gospel truth and even (what I think) semi-hijacks threads with his own stories etc...
Now, this can be a huge turn off to 'quieter' posters who don't like overbearing people. I'm not going to mention any names, I'm pretty sure the person recognizes himself anyways.
Just a thought... Maybe I'm way off.

Guess I had better add my name to this post, and 'fess up, as (in case you hadn't noticed), I have been an absentee for some months ( tho' as you see, I am back now).

Real life gets in the way, that's it and all about for me. Perhaps tho, some folks just get um... bored, and want to try something else for a while. If so, I am sure they will come back sooner or later - call of the sea and all that
