Yeah, I've heard about the 'Area 51 of the Reich' and if even half of the stuff is true, then there's some real interesting stuff under your feet.
Didn't know it was the gateway to the Fulda Gap though...thank god the Cold War never went hot or that area would be a pretty hotly contested zone. Beautiful countryside though, you'd never picture it as a place of war, would you? |

Smaragdadler ... is that guy in your signature in a voting booth or something? I can't tell ... even looks like it might be a video game.
I hope it's not a adult video parlor ... ![]()

It's the 'Wizard of OZ'.
There is an 'eastern block' version of the book by Alexander Wolkow . It was the very first book I have read for my own. In the east it was not just one book - but a whole series. The first book was more or less like the american 'Wizard of OZ' of Lyman Frank Baum and had the title 'The wizard of the emerald city'. It was very popular in the GDR. Maybe like Harry Potter today... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.smaragdenstadt-fanpage.de...er/smaragd.htm Quote:

Reichsflugscheiben aside, I wonder when those Fallis in Russia pictures were taken.
I suppose mid 1990s for the simple reason that I didnt see a single G 36. Maybe it was one of the early PFP exercises. Re Thüringen, the state is quite interesting, even though I'm totally against state patriotism, I'm german and nothing else. States have too much power in Germany and they would best be reduced to pure administrative purposes in my opinion. The Wartburg, Eisenach, Weimar, a bunch of other nice cities as Erfurt. Plus the whole WW2 Area 51 crap like Mittelbau-Dora, the giant underground V2 factory. Btw, the "drei Gleichen" Area is where according to one book Germany tested a nuclear bomb in 45. "Drei Gleichen" (wordplay, "three equals, but one of the castles is named Gleichen) area a group of three medieval castles aligned in a triangle over a large area, each sitting on a lone hill. Looks quite mysterious.

Yeah, that's exactly the area, where I live. The local tale has it, that during a storm lighning was stroking
all at the same time. But here almost 'every little village' has some castle or castle-ruins on the hill top above it... ![]() Some of the Castles in Thuringia: -> http://www.thueringerschloesser.de/m...&config=&part= Last edited by Smaragdadler; 07-23-07 at 09:14 AM. |
