What you might want to ask yourselfs... Will there be a UBISOFT ?

JScones has the most realistic possibility.

UBI did IL2-1946 Why not Silent Hunter Complete Edition.

You forgot one thing: More boats.

There are numerous boats that would be interesting in any WWII sim that you never ever see. Like the Type XXIII. Perhaps the Walter boats. Seehund and Bibers (for those 'quicky' patrols). Type VIID's. Type I's.

If you really want to get 'what-if-ish', there were numerous boats on the drawing boards that could make for some interesting gameplay.

Personally, though, I'd be interested in the Type XXIII. Very small, fast, and agile. Only two shots, but probably good enough to penetrate harbors late war. After all, last ship sunk by a u-boat in WWII was sunk by a XXIII in the Firth of Forth.

Default I'm optimistic, but not the way you think....

I'm not overly worried. Even if UBI doesn't come out with a SH5 some other company will give us another subsim. Oh, it may not be tomorrow, but someone somewhere will release another WWII sub sim. They'll look at the sales of SH3, see that UBI has no interest in pursuing the project, will lick their chops and jump on that bandwagon. They may not be able to call it Silent Hunter, but who cares. If they're smart they'll look at the mistakes UBI made, take note of what UBI did right, come up with some novel ideas on their own, and cut themselves in for a piece of that profitable pie.

And, NO, because some people (myself included) were vocal regarding the state of SH4 this will have no bearing on their final decision. If they think money can be made then they will produce a title. And money can be made if the sim is done right. SH3 proved that beyond any doubt. Companies look at what worked and what didn't. We'll get another sim, and it will be German based, aka U-boats because that sold like gangbusters.

We'll get another sub sim eventually, fellas. It just may not be from UBI. Eh, that's cool. That's the way capitalism works. Let someone else have a crack at it.

We WILL see another AMAZING sub sim - it likely wont be from UBI - and it likely wont have the Silent Hunter name though.

i seriously believe that if you put everyone at ubi on the project of SH5 it would probably STILL be another huge disaster simply because of some manager placing impossible release date demands on the devs.

the only way UBI will ever make a killer sub sim is if the Devs actually care about the accuracy and quality of their product and the "suits" dont strangle their creative efforts by demanding a product to be ready for release in 3 months.

IMHO SH5 development should have already started if we hope to see a finished product before december 2008. first it needs to start with a web based poll of sub sim players from around the globe from ANY sub sim related forum asking them what the strong points and weak points of past sub sims were and the top 10 things they wish they could have in a sub sim... after that the DEVS need to ask the question "how long will it take us to deliver the end all of sub sims?" and whatever the answer is they need to double it and get to work.

hard core flight simmers would gladly go out and pay $80+ for the deluxe/ collectors edition of microsoft flight simulator... i would think that serious sub simmers would gladly pay that for a sub sim that had everything or nearly everything they were looking for in a sim.

immersive environments
every inch of every compartment
usable stations
interactive crew
SDK released with the product!!!! like flight sim does!!!!

on and on and on

i believe that it will happen, but for the sub sims to reach that level the genre will have to chart a course and survive a vast sea of utter failure before we see the next great subsim that will blow us all away.

If there will be a Silent Hunter Complete edition, it means that there is still work being done/to be done on the SH series.....

In that case there wouldn't be so many fuss about patches not being made/dev teams being disbanded etc...

In this cynics opinion........

Yes there will be a Silent Hunter V if Ubisoft make a good profit of Silent Hunter IV.
It's just buisness, you don't kill a franchise if it's still making money.

Now if the question was...... should there be a Silent Hunter V...........

?

A Silent Hunter Complete Edition is a good idea. I'd spring for that....

A SH Complete Edition is a good idea. I'd spring for that. I never played the first or second in the series....

Considering what train of events has unfolded over recent years, surely a complete edition would only be a viable proposition if all the games were patched up to an acceptable playing standard :hmm:
