I hope so to, but I really think what will happen is we will hear very little or nothing for a bit, then a patch will come out fixing the major issues.

I thought this was for positive remarks. Yes, that is why I started it.
Not my fault if it has degraded into my other thread. I'd like to see some positve game play comments.

Then it wouldn't be 'criticism' now would it?

Well, my problem with the other thread was the title... "DONT BUY UBI SUCKS!!" That just isn't the type of thing I like to see on these forums... that is something I expect to see posted on ubi forums or something. And then everybody goes on a rampage (people that don't even own the game) before the people that DO have the game have even tried everything yet.

From the screenshots I've seen thus far, the game looks fantastic at a 4:3 aspect ratio 1024x768 resolution. Unfortunately, I haven't found this to be the case for larger 16:10 resolutions, or higher resolutions in general. Still, new effects like translucent water look stunning.

COME ON OWNERS OF SHIV!!! How hard can it be to start slappin' up some screens?!?
with my GF6200 i doubt you want them.

why is it that all i read is " the game is ugly (its not) it doesnt have fsaa im not buying it.

kinda weird in a "simulation" forum.

i havent fully tested sonar, hyrdophone, but both as mentioned seem an actuall jump and leap backwards, unless theyve locked or hidden a feature i cannot listed out for ships, nor can i get the radar to do anything, both are simulated, but perhaps not fully interactive as in SHIII. but dont take my word for it, ive not put much time in, unfortunatly i have a job.

2morro ill put serious time into the sim and see whats what.

i know one thing with my computer if gfx mattered i wouldnt be playing, remember STALKER has been in development for 6 years, runs on any old computer and looks "so so" but plays well.

what a shame that the only thing anyone cares about in a niche market is ..looks
personally id rather have a more accurate sim, and one that ran at a decent rate, than a fancy looking game that was somewhat average to play.

except for the looks of the sea above and underwater, i see no huge leap forwards, i can identify ships just aswell as i could in SHIII wich is important.
what i cant do is run the damn thing above 1 frame per day because rather than concentrate on making a good sim they spent half the development cycle making it pretty....

ppl wanted survivors in the water, ok its one boat a ship but they got it anyways.
you can rescue pilots , wont be long before a mod makes it possible to rescue others im sure.
the graphics are great, i dont know why ppl hate them so much, seriously.
gameplay has 1 or two issues that may well be down to me overlooking something, but nothing bad. ( i spent ages looking for a salvo/fan option and just found out why i cant, US subs didnt have one)

its very new, and too many ppl are bitching about it without possibly having had the time to actually play it. unless they dont have jobs.

remember SHIII was kinda lame till they modded in all that extra traffic ? and ports were pointless as they were empty, well this game has more traffic than you ever saw in SHIII and ports that are overflowing with huge numbers of ships.
convoys vary in size, and milatary fleets dont consist of 2 ships. there can be 10+
the game itself, pretty much delivers. with one or two flaws that will hamper it untill patched, but jeez honestly play the thing before you have a tantrum.

and get over the obsession with looks. too many games these days are all graphics no gameplay.
makes me wonder if im the only one here old enough to have had a Amiga, Spectrum, Amstrad.

to me, if i look out the scope and see something wich apears to be a kongo, the graphics are fine.
as for jaggies, well i had a choice, upgrade the pc or get xbox 360. guess wich i chose. im fine with jagged edges.
i have the other box for those pretty 2 hour games.
i keep my pc for real games, pitty that they get shorter as the devs spend more time making them look better. no time left to add a game to the pretty picture i guess.

rant over :-P

That thread is in the past. Forget about it.

Lets remember that one of the reasons this forum really works is it's ability to delver construcive critisism and help to developers.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and, in fact, it can be very helpful...

IF

it is done in a positive and respectful manner.

I know we are capable of that.

Thanks,

JCC

To all those hardworking modders out there; Thank you for all you do. UBI should be paying you!

Shame on the guys who knew about these bugs earlier...
I don't blame the Devs one Iota, They are merely the unfortunate pawns of the developer. I appreciate very much thier efforts give us a new subsim, cause quite frankly, the 'issues' I have seen so far don't overly concern me.

Furthermore, quite a few of these posts have been some of the most self-centered and superficial gripes I have ever seen; which is quite sad really, as I truely expected more from the members of a site as classy as subsim.

Good stuff. I think this is the first batch of impressions I've seen that pointed out lots of good things.

My only gripe with the whole resolution thing is that either through a mis-translation or outright deception, support for higher resolutions was stated. Now that the support may mean faked higher resolution, I'm a bit miffed, but not enough to cancel my pre-order or anything like that. I can live with a 1024x768 lockdown, but I'll always have a sore spot over being led to believe SH4 was going to be hi-res.

Speaking of patches, how long was SH3 out before the first and last patch? Anyone know? That may give me some indication on how long I need to wait to purchase SHIV.

I can't rember but I think a first patch came out the first week? The others followed over the months.

My memory is faulty, but it was several weeks. Then there was the patch that broke as much as it fixed

It kind of sounds like the devs knew the game was shipping a little too early and will have a patch to go pretty quickly though, or at least that's my take on things.

If people really wanted to be constructive, they would post in a concise manner what problems they were experiencing, what system they were running the game on, and what drivers they were using for their video card.

That way ubi would better be able to track down and fix any problem that could exist. Kinda hard to do that when you have to wade through alot of emotional "sucks!" ranting.

True, true. I guess.

But one should also be able to criticise an appearant lack of resolution choice, and/or underwater radar without posting driver version on the gfx card.
