G'day,

I agree and already pre-oreded a copy. And I remember when SH first came out, by SSI, I bought a copy and played it under Win98 til the 1's and 0's came off the CD. IMHO SH was well worth the purchase price then and I believe the same is true of SH4 now.

I do have this obsevation: SH xx is a WWII sub simulator; for the most part there were 3 nations operating at the deepths. With todays advances in hardware and software I would think it possible to produce a game, such as SH, that give the player the option of selecting the nation (of the three in this case) her/she chooses to be a subcommander.

Or is that ahead of the time thinking?

Now that would be utopia for me

Atleast, pre-ordered from www.amazon.co.uk (and they ship to the cold north too..). Now it is just the waiting time.....

I never pre-order unseen games since two years, too much disappointments in the past, particularly with Ubisoft games and their customer support after the release.

No demo or other way to test a game ... no buy, plain simple! The good thing is, here in Germany 98% of all new games can be be borrowed from video/dvd dealers and often already 2 days before the official shop release. That protected me often in the past, that games in which I actually interested, only collect dust on my shelf because I blindly bought it e.g. like Silent Hunter III.

Well I've already pre-ordered mine from amazon. I don't think I'm going to be dissappointed. I loved SH3, and SH4 is shaping up to be better... so nothing to lose really. I mean, I'm going to buy the game sooner or later. I can't imagine any scenario under which I don't buy the game... unless all that has been reported about the game is untrue.

You are right, my hobby is online gaming, I played DC vs. SHII in the past (only DC, subs never excite me much) and today some other popular online games within a MP clan. Singleplayer don't interest me in first place, therefor I plan to test SHIV about its online gameplay before I made a decision to purchase it.

I Bought them all, so why skipping part IV? We should all buy it as we need to make sure that future investments will be done. Maybe we get an Atlantic update. We should once get a version with Wolfpacks? Will that ever happen? Let's make sure there will be a SH-V with that.

If your going to buy a copy, use the link through the subsim website! Then Subsim cets some extra income at no cost to you!

If you are like me, living in a country that isn't covered by the Amazon links, give a small donation to the site. It's your site as well so if you want it to stay, support it!

I'll eventually buy it ...However, there is a lesson that can be learned by waiting untill patches and mods are released to make it a complete game. SH3 out of the box and unmodded to me was worthless. When it was patched and modded to TGW it became great.

I'll concede their were challenges on initial release (some were never properly addressed: patched, modded or otherwise). Though while not perfect, it was still a very playable game out of the box and far from "worthless."

To be honest, stock SH3 gripped me right away. The graphics were pretty awesome, and it was the first U-boot game I had ever had the urge to play. Granted I knew very little about subs back then, and might have been happy within my ignorance. But I got addicted to it from the get go, and the subsequent mods, and my eventual participation in them kept me hooked. Looking forward to SH4 more than ever now. from what I've gathered so far, it looks to be far more playable than stock SH3 was. It seems they have fixed what was the biggest problem in SH3... lifelessness. Stock SH3 was flat and dry. With SH4 the've livend up the graphics, livened up the game worls with little men, lifeboats and traffic, and most importantly, made this interact with the radio. Bottom line... Stock SH4 looks to be at least as enjoyable as a heavily supermodded SH3, plus it has stuff we just couldn't do. The fact that they've designed it to be moddable is even better.
