Do you know if it is possible to have the music while running the sub, on the gramaphone perhaps? I looked at the file in the gramaphone folder, but that isn't the same as the music you hear when the film is running I think, which is the bit I want.
From what I understand you have to turn off the sim's background music in order to hear gramaphone music. I never listen ( if I have a choice ) to a Sim/Game background music ( but I do listen to the Sims gramaphone music ) for not only does it disturb your concentration of the Sim/game but at that time the earth never had music piped in as it seems to be today, every body carries their own music 24/7.

Can you imagine in the 1940's on a U-Boot the Kaleun prays to God " Please lord will you kindly turn off that music, the British might hear it." :rotfl:

About an hour more of the movie, but the uncut version is about five hours long and I understand the best version.

The uncut version is the only way to watch it 'warts and all'...you get an excellent insight into all the emotions the crew experienced during a patrol (boredom, fear, humour, excitement, suspicion, hope, elation) and a whole lot more

The original theatrical version is 2-1/2 hours long.

The Director's Cut is 3-1/2 hours, and has a lot more scenes of the boredom, plus a great opening sequence before the night club scenes.

The "Original, Uncut (or miniseries) Version" is 5 hours long, has scenes with Ullmann and his girlfriend, scenes of the 'Old Man' himself starting to show the strain and a very hot discussion about rescuing the British survivors that isn't in either of the shorter versions. Plus a whole lot more about the boredom and some more about the storm, plus two or three more crash-dive sequences and more good stuff.

"Is that yours?" "No, I think I'd remember."
"Or was it maybe a seagull?":rotfl: (Now you have to see it just to find out)

Funny thing about the english translation: The lead-cast was so good in english that they dubbed their own characters voices from german to english.

If you read the book, you’ll find out that Frenssen and the other NCO’s are also by far more, uhm, let’ say sexually incorrect than shown in the movie. They tell each other some quite disturbing tales (e.g. the one about the whore with the glass eye… )

Cheers,

I bought the 5-hour uncut version day before yesterday - it is outstanding. Only downside is the print they used to make the DVD isn't of the best quality - I believe the director's cut has been remastered. But the uncut version can't be beat for just giving more of a great film.

I didn't even know there was a book, so thanks for that.

BTW, after watching it yesterday I rushed out and picked up SH3. Still floundering about in the Academy, and now flopping like a fish on a dock here in these forums.

Oh yeah... This film is a classic that every SH3 player should see.

I watched the film yesterday. Hadn't seen it for some time.

I was kind of amused to find those familiar GWX sounds in the film. Every time I heard a familiar line, I couldn't help laughing.

Great work, guys!

I know what you mean. It always makes me jump when I hear a GWX sound in Das Boot (especially: "Alaaaaaaaarrrrrm!!!") I guess I've just become conditioned to it.

So ture, so true!

Anyway...i think it would be a good idea to have this Sound-file as a Ring-Tone, eh!:rotfl:
