Oh that Das Boot ( again )

Yep I just had to see it again ( after the um-teenth time ;) )
cranked up the family theater sound system ( 5.1 dolby ) and was again blown away by the best sub movie ever. :yep:

My edition is the 'directors Cut' which is 209 minutes long ( about 3 1/2 hours ) and I love it. I know that a bunch of you here have seen it but is there anyone in the crowd that hasn't ?

Ok now back to SHIII. :D

Yes, this version is also my favorite. Awesome, awesome movie. Without a doubt it's the u-boat movie; nothing else even comes remotely close to its characterization, attention to detail and story telling. A very good movie all around; even if you don't like submarines you'll like this movie. Highly recommended. :yep:

Yep, wonderful movie.

While on the topic of sub movies though, I watched The Enemy Below a month ago. Not quite like Das Boot but still a good movie. My wife watched it with me and she thought it was really quite good (and she generally hates watching my war stuff!). If you see it at the video store, rent it out for a Sunday afternoon.

Get the uncut version and watch it some Saturday/Sunday (at 5 hours long, you pretty much make a day of it!)

The sound quality isn't quite as good, but it more than makes up for it with the added scenes. You actually get to see Ullman's girlfriend (the one who's pregnant and Werner volunteers to take his love letters ashore) and it's got more Thomsen, amongst other nice additions.

Never seen it before.

also, for those of you new, watch it in german with english subtitles.. :)

I just got the movie a month ago.. already watched it like 5 times.. lol

Das Boot...? This a new movie?

She-Wolf 01-30-07 05:53 AM

Elder Pirate, I have just bought a copy as well. :D
Do you know if it is possible to have the music while running the sub, on the gramaphone perhaps? I looked at the file in the gramaphone folder, but that isn't the same as the music you hear when the film is running I think, which is the bit I want.

Myxale 01-30-07 06:03 AM

Agreed!! Das Boot all the way baby! I owe both version the Remastered and the long Tv edition.

Wolfy-Girl you can add any mp3 music to you gramophone fiolder and enjoying it in your own Boot. There are lots of music packs that have the musik and Gramophone songs from Das Boot around here.

I've seen the movie a couple of times but some friends gave me the DVD as a present during Christmas:D

The best Das Boot treat you can give yourself is reading the book . I'd seen the film first and own the DVD, but reading the book surpassed even that experience. It also makes you realise just how good a book->movie conversion it is. Possibly the best I've ever come across....

I like it too, but 1 thing I'll never understand - the title. What the hell has it common with boots?
