Several posts ago, a cover of a song by Lara Nyro was presented and I added a post od songs by Janis Ian; both women are great songwriters who influenced a far greater circle of other songwriters/musicians than their own personal amount of fame would give you to believe. I'd like to add another pair of name to the list...
Tim Hardin was a great songwriter of the 60s-80s who is best known for this song covered by several artists and making the charts several times; I first heard it recorded by Bobby Darin and, later, heard it many times when my sister, who was a big fan of the original Star Trek, got an album of Leonard Nimoy singing and this was one of the songs: ...and if you are a Rod Stewart fan, you might have heard this song by Tim: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Hardin The Other songwriter is Fred Neil, who I became aware of when I first heard the Jefferson Airplane do a cover of this song: Fred was rather a reclusive loner, wasn't really big on touring and performing publicly, and did not really get the attention he deserved outside of the songwriter/musician's circle, but his songs have been covered by some of the most famous recording artists and his songwriting has inspired other more well-known writers like Joni Mitchell, Gram Parsons, and, yes, Tim Hardin. Neil is probably best known for this song he wrote, here sung by Fred, which has become a standard for many artists: I just want to throw in this version of Hardin's If I Were A Carpenter because if there were ever two people who could do the song justice, it most probably be this couple: <O>
