Thanks for the report, but I would recommend that you only install the mods I have set a star on above and even better reinstall SH4 and install the mods with a star on and using SH 1.5 to be 100% sure it's not the new scene / PE2.1 causing trouble.

Regarding the underwater, yes I did make it more murky, because it was suggested by some of the testers :p

The jiggling is when the water stops and start to jiggle back and forth, but I will look into the other issue as well.

BTW I am thinking about releasing this mod in pieces so you can combine it with other mods, is that a good idea? f.ex. the first would be the submarine caustics, special effects and the new clouds and new terrain textures and the later the sky and ocean colour with the new scene will be released, so you guys can enjoy the work that is finished and don't have to wait anymore.

Hi Kriller, although I can't wait for your latest version of PE, I would much rather wait for the complete mod in one packaged d/l. It seems much easier, and less confusing in my opinion. Then again, let the majority rule!

Ah CRAP! I swear, these SFX are driving me NUTS! For testing purposes, I reduced the size of all seafoam textures by half, and it seemed to have done the trick...and I say "seemed", cause every once in a while I'll get the slowdown again. What's really frustrating is that it's not a constant behavior, i.e. in the same mission, with the exactly same parameters, it more often than not will not happen. So, in order to be absolutely sure what's causing it, I have to run the same mission multiple times! And when I say "ok, it works!", I'll load another test mission (with another target and/or weather conditions) and the slowdown will rear its ugly head again! Driving me ckufing nuts, I tells ya!

Now, with regards to mod availability, I'm well aware that it's easier to release it all in one big lump and install everything once. But, as far as compatibility with other mods goes, I think it's better if it stays modular, just as ROW was.

The new shell explosion effect looks kinda neat. I like the way you get small debris falling in the water. It's not FPS-friendly, though. But hey, explosions aren't exactly FPS-friendly either, but they look good, don't they?

Hi DrBeast, Yes me to, it looks like it's random, before the new scene I got the slowdowns when looking at the submarine from the freecamera or looking at the explosions. But I think the new scene and environment files helped? - havent' had any random slowdowns since using it, only when there are 12 ships all firring at eachother (and me) at the same time and the FPS in the harbour has definately helped, before I got like 8 FPS in the harbour now it's at 20

BTW have you tried set the resolution to f.ex. 800 x 600 and turn off the AA? - because if they still happens after that it's not a performance issue with the textures /effects but an engine issue.

Thanks for all your work on trying to localize the slowdowns Beast I hope you are not taking the parachute and bails out

Hm...haven't tried lowering resolution, but I have tried without AA/AF. Nothing to indicate it's an engine issue, i.e. still got slowdowns only when using parts of PE2.
Heh...knowing me, I'll accidentally grab a sack of flour instead of the parachute! :rotfl:

I dont use NSM, how do i get the special effects with the latest PE?
do i use the old special effects?
do i use the special effects for NSM4 even though i dont run NSM?

There will be a version of Special Effects for stock zones.
In the meantime, you can use the old special effects. And no, don't use the NSM version, Werner has completely remade ships zones structure.

Hey Kriller2, i always thought things being modular were better but thats just my opinion and has alot to do with my work stuff anyway. Having all the parts seperate would be nice and i dont think it make it more difficult for install.

Kriller i did as u said and ran just 1.5 with just ur mods and still the crash for me in 1.5, its not ur mods fault, i believe something in 1.5 land was changed and giving my 8800gtx and vista a wallop, theirs a big discussion of this in the ubi forums. So ill stick with 1.4 until patch.

The explosions, well to clarify, it was a slowdown really with the cannons shooting, ie subs deck gun and the big guns of battleships/ destroyers, if that narrows it down more. Other than that havent had any more problems and everything for me runs great in 1.4. sh4

The black scary smoke of oil fire is great it gives that nice eerie feeling, and actually brought some things back to mind from iraq. ha. That black smoke is dead on. From one of ur last screenshots it shows the new shell impact sfx and i assume thats not in the files i have, i didnt notice it in my shoootings.

In regards to the water, topside is a big improvement, looks great, im a noob with scene file so my knowledge is limitied but to be devils advocate, when u look at wclears water and actually test it, it looks and acts quite well, now i think pe2 water is better but one thing i do like from wclears is the reflection map, more of the sea is shiny if thats the right word. Just my thoughts on that . Its running just fine for me.

Below surface, the deeper eerrie blue is very good, the one thing i missed from the previous version was that hint of green as u went deeper/ looked down, thought that was cool but not a deal breaker by anymeans.

Anyways good work, i have picts but darn imageshack is being a putz and wont upload so i have to look deeper into that

Aaah, ok, well that kind of slowdown is expected...that and the moment of torpedo impact, with water and smoke being cascaded up. What I'm witnessing is completely different: as soon as I have torpedo impact, and as long as I keep the camera close to the target, my game goes into Matrix Mode: FPS drop from as high as 30-35 to 8-12, and stay that way until the ship is sunk.

Have fun with the air jumps, just beware of those sacks of flour! :rotfl:

BTW, I keep two accounts for photo uploads, one at imageshack and one at photobucket. Odds of both of them being cranky are pretty slim

Hmmm...you have a point there. Well, theoretically you can, but it will only work correctly on japanese ships. Allied ships might show wonky behavior. As soon as Werner releases a new version of NSM, I'll have a look at it and make a compatible Special Effects version.
