Whilst you're up that way head over to Loch Ewe. Unlikely to be anything there unless there's an exercise on but still a nice place for remoteness and gorgeous scenery. And you can convince the wife to go as it's the most romantic place in the UK in the middle - the Isle of Ewe (say it). Takes a while to get there though.

Although now he's gone to the dark side with an R22 the price of 'fuel only' *cough* has gone up to £90 for 45 mins, which I think is beyond reasonable costs to us after travelling to the airfield too.

Still, frees up some time for drink or two.
That's a shame but in all honesty I only feel safe in a commercial airlines plane

I wouldn't be able to get to Chelmsford until at the earliest 10:30 I'm afraid.

No problem.
I'll either take a later train (9.30) or take the extra time to explore Chelmsford

Just put the coordinates for the Hotel into the SatNav (force of habit).

The distance is 80 mile and 1h 40mins so I'll be leaving at 10am allowing me a comfortable drive and arrival before noon.

Check-in isn't until 2pm so I'll be in the pub next door 'Old Grey Mare' with Mark if he arrives early enough.

What are you going to do with the other 59 minutes?

Right, I've done the timetables, and depending on how things go it'll either be 10:30 or 10:58, there's a pretty tight change at Colchester for the 10:30 arrival which could go sideways depending on how the trains are running, so the back-up train is the 10:58 arrival.
