I thought that would be self-evident but OK.. I will explain.

It's basic physics. To every action there is an equal and oposite reaction.

See, this is supposed to be a forum for the mature discussion of submarine simulations. Subsim.com has always benefited from having a close relationship with the developers of submarine simulations (not just Dan and his team). We know some of these people personally and know that they are enthusiasts, are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, and possess more knowledge about submarines that any of us will ever have.

So when someone who has barely even bothered to participate in this community starts throwing terms like "clueless" around about someone they have never even met, and makes foolish statements about Ubisoft, one of the largest and most profitable game publishers in the world, not knowing "how to run a software development project", and then finishes off with a bad Star Trek analogy... well, you just gotta expect some kind of reaction.

John, thanks for putting some sanity back into threads like this. It takes a patient person to do what you do.

Ubisoft have let the Silent Hunter series down once again, plain and simple.

It is not good enough to say "it's a genre with a small fanbase so we should be happy they even make the game."

No, we pay good money to beta test. Everyone complaining has every reason to do so. This is not immature, it is people getting frustrated and feeling dudded.

Microprose made Silent Service, which is the grand father of Silent Hunter. If UBISOFT were to not make another, someone else would. It might not be as good but it might be better. Ubisoft didn't make the genre, they didn't make the style. It is the same gameplay I had playing Silent Service, just with the technology of graphics and game engines available today.

I believe SH3 took ideas form Enigma Rising tide with being able to be inside the sub. Previous titles simply had nav maps, stations like periscope and deck.

Ubisoft owe US not the other way around.

-End of Rant. (For today)

Nice one JC

I think this delay means The Devs are kicking ass and taking names. I think, with the help of members of this very Community, they're having a bloody good go at fixing as much stuff as they can before Ubi says, 'STOP!'.

I think the patch was on it's way over but the delivery ship was driven by the captain of the Exxon Valdez and it was struck by a DRM torpedo.

Almost...the patch is stuck on the ship that ran aground on the barrier reef. DRM is killing the coral.

Why is this becoming such an aggressive and personal issue. There are two sides to this argument and it is important both sides recognise and respect that. personal insults are simply not justified. I am annoyed the patch didn't come out on time as promised but after I calmed down I could understand there may be reasons we are not fully aware of.

To be quite frank, I am disappointed more with how UBI handled the delay, i.e. Not informing people but after seeing what has happened here since last Friday (and yeah before anyone points it out, I did have a go at them too) I am personally not suprised they didn't say anything on this board because to be honest, any statement no matter how credible would have had some people attacking it

Havent said anything before, wasnt going to. I'm happy to wait as long as it takes, keeping the community informed should of been a high priority of UBI. That part is annoying, ive since deleted SH5 from my drive, was adding a new OS so thought would wait until something solid has happened before reanstaling SH5.
Anyway doing other things now, so can do without SH5 and all its problems, but like most am unhappy at the way UBI has handled things, but not using SH5 has made things better for me as im not bothered now either way what happens, guess like a lot im sick and tired of it all. Sure that SH5 will get better and hope so, but until then im back with Arma2 and SH4. Will keep looking and checking for that patch and really appreciate all the hard work our community has done to make SH5 a playable platform, i love the SH series and always have done, i just want a good playable SH5 so we can just forget about the past and look to the future. Happy sailing everyone.

Since I'm stuck in another town with a 5 year old laptop, I'm not that bothered about the latest patch delay. But I do have a question.

How did we go from "localization problem" to "unworkable state" after one extra week of work?

Now, I think I can safely say that I've been quite impartial lately, neither slamming the devs, nor defending them. The main reason is that they don't read these comments anyway. The second reason is that I can only judge them by the quality of their product, which, at the moment is... well... uhmm... but it might become good after this patch if only they... well... uhmmm... release it.

Has anyone even considered that the delay could be something special they are cookng up?(a ward room perhaps?) Or that they simply are making sure it's bug free, and fixes as much as is possible and adds to the content.
Could also be they are revamping the entire UI.
Truth is all that is said here, even my comment is speculation. But I'd rather have positive speculation over negative any day.

Come on folks, you have to look at the world with better eyes than that.
You cant just keep seeing and speaking so negatively, life's too short.

The delay is likely caused by something they have screwed up, and thus need to fix before release.

I very much doubt they will be working on more content any time soon.

Yes I for one am feeling positive about the patch, especially because it's delayed.
The list of fixes is obviously larger than the one we already have seen, and thats a BIG plus. And I cant help but get this feeling that something special to us may well be in it.

But thinking positvely and always being hopeful is how I live, and I believe in what Pancho Barnes used to say.
"When you have a choice, choose happy."

Maybe they decided to remove DRM at the last minute because the game sales have choked.
