historically, Schleswig-Holstein was already moored in Danzig when the invasion of Poland started. But again, nothing forces us to follow history literally
I did try this, but had many issues with it attacking docked ships and basic caro traffic. Fun to watch but possible ctd when planes add their fire to it.

This is a shame. What is the problem?
Here I have the ships patroling and a player based trigger for the air raids (don't want to miss it). I have no way of knowing how long the player wil take to get there. Anytime between the 1st and 4th is ok.
When the air raids start - sometimes a ship is sunk - sometimes a player will sink a ship.

As I am forced to ensure the ships will be there I must use a looped waypoit system for their patrol. I can't them break this loop.
The only way to do it would be by date/time delete ships or by trigger - then respawn them with new orders to goto Hel and dock to add their AA to the air defence.

The issue is that if the airraids or player sinks one - we will have reports of a zombie ship with zombie crew.
This type of report at the very start of the war may be a bad omen

Here's an idea for the next update: The kanalkampf, luftwaffe attacks on channel convoys, and the opening stage of the battle of Britain.

I will tell you my idea:
  1. 1st objective: intercept/report the Polish taskforce.

The taskforce should be set to leave from Gdynia early on September 1st, heading for the entrance of the Bay of Danzig, and hanging around overnight. Try giving the player as few clues on their route and operation area as possible. Eventually, set some coastal traffic for confusing our watch crew and hydrophone operator

    • case A - we have been greedy for small Polish tonnage, and we fail accomplishing the objective within the given deadline: after laying all of their mines (Gryf: ca. 300, Wicher: 60, each of the 6 Jaskółka class minesweepers: 20) the Polish ships head for Hela victorious and unharmed
    • case B - we intercept and report our target (objective is accomplished). The stuka's are spawned at some distance, and a new mission is triggered: sink the Polish minelayer. As soon as the Polish ships get aware of being under attack, no matter at what point of they route/mission they are, they stop laying mines, abandon their current route, and head straight for Hela. Please, give them brave crews. Moreover, if you can think of any deterrent avoiding that we will fire all of our eels against the retreating Polish flotilla (or what remains of it), and for giving it time to reach their last waypoint, please use it here

  2. 2nd objective: recce the Hela harbour and wait then for instructions (triggered by date, starting from Sep 3rd).

Here we shouldn't put any reference to the survivors of the Battle of the Bay of Danzig, exactly because we don't know if there were any survivors. So, if we meet them again, it will be a surprise

    • case A - either ORP Gryf or ORP Wicher (or both of them) are still alive: after a while a new side mission is triggered, and we are given the chance to complete the unfinished work. In the meanwhile the two German destroyers will rush at full speed for supporting our attack
    • case B - the Polish Navy is already disbanded: we are set free to return to base or to continue our patrol at wish.

Today mornig I have been looking into German warships active in the Baltic during the very first days of the invasion of Poland. I will divide them into two arbitrary groups:

1 - Schleswig-Holstein (Deutschland class battleship) + T-196 & T-963 (WWI era torpedo boats)

About Schleswig-Holstein:
Quote:
Early on 1 September 1939, Germany launched an attack against Poland. Schleswig-Holstein had been positioned in the port of Danzig on what had been called a ceremonial visit in August. The ship was moored close to the Polish fortress at Westerplatte; at 04:47 on 1 September, Schleswig-Holstein opened fire with her main battery at the Polish positions on the Westerplatte, and in doing so fired the first shots of World War II.

See also Battle of Westerplatte

2 - Köln (Königsberg class light cruiser), Leipzig, Nürnberg (Leipzig class light cruisers) + 18 destroyers (yes, I was wrong in stating that only a little number of them was involved )

About Köln:
Quote:
In the final days of August, Köln was stationed in the western Baltic to prevent Polish vessels from fleeing after the German invasion of Poland on 1 September; she was unsuccessful in this task. She thereafter joined her sister ships in laying a series of defensive minefields.
About Leipzig
Quote:
At the outbreak of World War II in September 1939, Leipzig was assigned to the blocking force that was intended to prevent the escape of the Polish Navy from the Baltic; they were unsuccessful. Leipzig thereafter went to the North Sea, where she and the other light cruisers laid a series of defensive minefields.

See also http://www.angelfire.com/ia/totalwar/kmsLeipzig.html:

August 24 through September 2, 1939-The Leipzig is assigned to patrol duties in the Baltic Sea.
About Nürnberg:
Quote:
At the outbreak of the war she [Nürnberg] operated briefly in the Baltic Sea; she was then assigned to the reconnaissance force, also composed by the light cruisers Leipzig and Köln, which had the task of protecting and supporting the German destroyers engaged in mine laying operations off the coast of Great Britain.

See also http://www.angelfire.com/ia/totalwar/kmsNuernberg.html:

August 1939-The Nürnberg is assigned to patrol in the western and central Baltic Sea.

September through October 1939-The Nürnberg takes part in the Poland Campaign, then is assigned to the Befehlshaber der Aufklerungskraefte (reconnaissance force), currently operating in the North Sea. The ship then took part in several mining operations along the British coast and in the North Sea.
About the destroyers:
Quote:
On the outbreak of war in September 1939, all but three of te available German destroyer fleet were positioned in the Baltic. Here they provided a screening force intended to prevent Polish warships or merchant vessels from escaping. [...] The weak Polish naval forces available meant that the large German naval force was not really necessary, and only provided targets for the small number of Polish submarines lurking in the area. The destroyer force was therefore withdrawn into western waters.
The new task allocated to te destroyers force was in laying the huge defensive minefield intended to protect the German Bight from incursions by British warships. 16 of the fleet were involved in this successful minelaying campaign, which lasted until late September, whilst the remaining destroyers were used to stop and search merchant ships in the Skagerrak looking for contraband, and seizing several ships under prize rules. After the cessation of of their involvement in the Polish campaign, almost all of the available units of the destroyer fleet were moved onto minelaying duties off the English coast.

Testing something close to this

w00t! Thanks Trevally.

I happen to be in the bunker at the moment, so will download and install straight away. Presumably I should activate this at the same point in the order that 2.1 currently occupies, right? Or wrong?

Yes,

You can even just edit the .mep file;

1. Add the new 2.2 to the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder
2. Save your current mod list
3. Deactivate the mod list
4. Open the .mep file with Note Pad and delete the 2.1
5. Enter the exact name of the new 2.2 in the same place
6. Save the .mep file with a new name (make sure you save it in .mep format)
7. Activate this new .mep file in JSGME

This way you always keep the same load order and keep a copy of the .mep file you used before.

Hit a snag. When I click the download link I get this:

Quote:
VacantName, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. If you are trying to post or download, be sure you have activated the email that was sent to you when you registered. Your account may be awaiting activation.
  2. You have hit download limit for the day. We have a limit because with hundreds of members downloading every day, it can get pretty expensive for us. Become an officer in the Subsim Navy here and have your download limit increased to 25, 35 or even 60 a day!
A website this big uses a lot of bandwidth and needs a really powerful server to stay online day after day, for 15 years. Thanks for the support!
  3. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  4. You have been a member a long time, and you've never posted or have not posted in a long time. Solution: make a post somewhere in the forum. This post will be placed in the moderation que, and after 24 hours or less the forum will automatically enable downloads for you again. We have to do this to prevent spammers from joining, waiting a few months and then bombarding the forum with ads for Vie-gra, etc.
  5. The administrator may have disabled your account.
Any ideas what the problem is? None of the listed ones seem relevant...

Clearly my account's active (1, 4 and 5) as I've been posting and downloading without any problem so far. Clearly I'm not trying to do anything administrative (3) and as a "First Officer" (2) I should have a daily download limit of 25, right? Well I've only downloaded 22 in over 3 years!

EDIT: Apparently the file is "in the moderation queue", whatever that means....
