I use hydrophone and periscope. You need to mark on your map when you spot someone not moving too much then dive to between 20m and 25m to keep clear. Pop your scope up to check out when you approach so you can see hi hull. if you can then you are OK as the DD's will saty clear of their own, although I have seen a DD crusha PT boat against a breakwater in Gibraltar once.

Make sure you have plenty of O2 though. it can get a bit hairy if the escorts won;t leave the area. I got stuck under a crippled C2 for 9 hours game time before the escorts would leave the area, when I popped up to finish the job, the C2 radioed for help and they came rushing back. I got the C2 but had to make a run for it when the escorts retrurned.
