I guess he has now apologized for the 'despicable' things he said. Lay off the sauce Mel. Leave the goofy outbursts to Tom Cruise.

This is why I don't go to the movies anymore. Mel Gibson has been playing the good Catholic for some time now, saying that he has reformed and turned against his old, drunken ways. Perhaps not so, and this tends to shape popular American opinion against anyone holding to such a faith, not because the type of faith is conceived as facetious, but rather because, generally speaking, the public is incredibly stupid.

It could be that a federal regulation barring Hollywood celebrities from discussing their faith could alleviate this. Of course, a law barring celebrities from discussing any matter what-so-ever would certainly be a superior idea. Only this may end up protecting the public from themselves.

I don't think he's been "playing" at that - where is the earthly incentive in living a good Christian life, especially when you're incredibly rich and can trade it in for the hedonism enjoyed by everyone else?

The guy fell off the wagon, in a spectacular way, but it happens. He went a step further and broke the law and made an @ss of himself, but that happens too. To everyone, whether a celebrity or not. The only thing "special" about this is that because of his celebrity it is considered news.

You have my vote. But I'd go further. Any celebrity caught talking about anything they don't have the slightest clue of should be shot on sight by the nearest armed person. In the event that there isn't any weapon or improvised blunt, slashing or cutting object nearby, spanking to death with bare fists will suffice.
