I still think we should hide the key for the captains port in a better place next time

Oh, there's collaboration, trust me. The fact is that you don't see most of it - there is a large amount of communications that occurs behind the scenes and in private - and I'm not surprised. A lot of it deals with data changes that could break the game for those who aren't careful or patient to wait for the final release; others simply want to have their work finished before showing it to anyone. So, modders will often meet up and 'recruit' team members here, show their progress, but keep the real under-the-hood cooperation in private.

As someone's who's been part of a whole range of big mods - I can tell you that you're wrong, and you certainly would not see most of the improvements to SHIII without this forum. From RUb to GW, I think a great many mods would not be here without the modding hub that is the Mod Worrkshop. To a visitor the cooperation isn't always obvious; to a regular - it's well-known.
:hmm:

When I kitbash new ships, I usually discuss the progress with other modelers and get and give help whenever it is needed or required. A lot of this has been done through PM's - no point in boring everyone else to death with details that are specific to one project.

And it is certainly not a competition - not to me anyway. If it were, Iambecomelife would be the clear winner at kitbashing, as his ships are the best kitbashes available. I also believe that Cdr Gibbs and Sergbuto are working on entirely new models behind the scenes (although I do not speak for them) - I guess there would be no point in sharing until it were finished. Neither of them are hiding secret info - I have received help from both of them through PM's when I needed it.

I have gotten PM's myself from people wondering why I won't release more of my kitbashed merchants. The fact is, most of them would crash the game if torpedoed. I haven't had time to work on them in the past month, but I am certainly not being stingy. When they are ready, I will release them - actually I hope to have another one ready this Saturday or Sunday.

Anyway, I think that this guy (forget his username) had a real problem with conduct on this board, he should have been more specific. Although maybe he PM'd someone and they refused to help him, or didn't have time. If that is the case, don't give up here yet.

Yeah... I can give me as an example, since i don't know yet how to mod some stuff in the stock game i add tryed and allready helped other Expert Modders with other stuff, like little detailles , that i'll
not mentione here cause it was private talks , so i allways try to help the way i can, what i do best, research for materials and fotage that can be used to Mod some graphics in game, and even slowlly i've been able to bring some minor improvements to some Mods....

I bellieve that like in mi case, there is Lot more guys here that like misellf, help, and develop parts of the Modding in all diferent ways...

Research , also think that it's not correct to come to other web forums judging without knowing...

There made mi point! :hmm:

Stiebler said (evidently unwisely):
Quote:
The point is obvious - Werner1942 thinks that there is too much salesmanship of existing mods, and not enough collaboration on new mods.

Provided Werner1942 allows an exception for the brilliant NYGM mods, then I agree.
I meant that there is too much salesmanship, not too little collaboration.

The moderators have recently decided to move all mod-related posts from the main forum to this workshop forum. It is not for me to say whether they are right or wrong, but definitely it has changed the mix of posts here.

I think some of you don't know what you're talking about.

-Salesmanship? Nobody is selling anything here! This is a free based community here. Everyone here is FREE to CONTRIBUTE, DISCUSS, COMMENT ON MODS, and DOWNLOAD them.

-1 post trolls are not welcomed. If you want to sit back and read what people write and not want to input anything useful into the discussion but start one all your own and state people here don't know what they are doing and are not productive- YOU ARE A TROLL! period. Just look at how much GOOD has come from this community.

-You don't need to be an artist or a programmer to contribute to this community. I have not contributed anything data related to any mod so far, but I have contributed "ideas" that some have brought to life in mods. I recall starting a thread about having names on the game map for bodies of water that Beery and a few other made happen. I don't want credit for anything because they were the ones that made it happen but I like to think that a small part of that mod happened because of my idea. Even if they were going to do it anyways.

-Don't be a 1 post hater - supporter. They are not welcomed here very much and to side with them just makes you look bad. That's like defending a man for shooting your mom because it only happened once and she wasn't the nicest mom in the world to YOU!

My contributions are much the same as jcwolf's. I haven't been around very long...5-6 weeks. I don't know the file structures, modelling, or much anything else to do with serious modding of SH3.

I do love the game though, and saw the amazing quality of the many mods out there. I was totally amazed.

I do what I can. I help keep track of errors and write up information that goes into the GW FAQ. I also try to do small things that I know how to do, like turning down the volume of the cabin clock to various levels then bundling it in the correct format so people could load it quickly. It's not a big deal, anyone could do it if they took the time to edit and save some files and write a little note on how to apply the fix. But last time I checked it had been dl'ed 121 times. So it helped some people out there make the game even better, which is what everyone here wants to do.

I had the exact opposite impression of this forum than Werner1942 had. I thought it was very cool how so many people were doing cool projects and helping each other out.

@Werner1942
If you wanna talk the talk, you better walk the walk. I expect to see your contribution soon.

This I agree with. I was pondering last night that maybe there needs to be another forum created - "Mod releases" or something that describes a forum where the (for want of a better word) "commercial" mod release notifications go. In other words, a place for mod *users* to congregate and salivate over the latest "final" releases. The "Mod Workshop" can then be left free for modders and contributors/visionaries to muse their latest thoughts and enhancements.

And CCIP... Which reminds me, I have to reply to your PM!
