That a thread can be revived after 9 years is a testament to the awesomeness of the game, and devotion of the players.
I don't think this game will ever get old for me.

That said, I think I had to put up with 4 actual hours of 1:1 speed depth charging. I scored a few hits on convoy action once.
I figured when the ships got far enough away, the escorts would lose interest and rejoin their fleet. That was when I learned about HKs....

On the single missions, the break into gibraltar one, I took 6 hours of actual bombing. the other 2 hours was spent T/C-ing the rest of the way to La Spezia

2-3 hours, IIRC. I managed to lose all but one of the escorts and then the last one chasing me hit me once and got the electrical engines knocked out. For the next 15 minutes I was slowly sinking, dead-in-water, making emergency repairs, while controlling depth by blowing ballast and praying not to get hit again. The escort was running low on depth charges and only threw a couple of dc's at me or the Bold canister I had released when hit. I was not hit again and had no problems in losing the last escort after I got my electrical engines working again.

That was a 1942 experience against a convoy guarded by just 4-5 escorts. I'm not too hopeful to survive against the late war NYGM convoys. I remember someone writing that the numbers are closer to the historically realistic numbers which could mean 8 at close escort and a force making long range probes.

Another new-fangled internet acronym, which stands for: If I Recall Correctly

Longest I recall was some 32 in game hours. Oxygen and batteries low and boat seriously damaged. With last availalble pressure air I blew ballast and surfaced the boat amidst three escorts...

Oh, great... Let me guess, that was a late war NYGM experience?

I've taken numerous 8+ (game) hour depth-chargings in NYGM. Fortunately, the majority were pre-1943 and I was able to survive. The deaths usually involved foolish actions in shallow waters.

I wonder is it even possible to survive depth charge hunting after 42
