My father's NSU RO 80, which I took for a ride being only 16 in Germany... The first car I drove. I'm glad that nobody took notice, I was not allowed to take the car...

I remember thinking when I was young what a fabulous modern-looking car the 1968 NSU Ro80 was in my Brooke Bond (trading card) album It still looks pretty to me...

I learned on 3 different cars.
The first was the standard driving school car of the late 90ies. The VW Golf MK IV:

However it was sold before I finished my training and the replacement car wasn't delivered yet so I took a few lessons on a VW Polo III which was the spare car of the school and gas powered instead of the normal diesel engines in training cars:

Finally the replacement car arrived and I got to drive my third car within a few weeks, an Audi A3:

1975 AMC Matador. The only thing different is no stripe on the side and regular hub-capped wheels. Think Dad had had white walls on it too.

First Drive was a 2012 Camry SE

Spent a lot of time learning in a 2006 GMC Sierra too.

Taught myself to drive stick in a 2004 Focus

Many of you know the story of what happened to that car

and I taught myself how to do lots of cool stuff in my 2003 Focus SVT

1964 Pontiac Star Chief. I have no photos of it, so the one below is off the web. It had a white body with a dark Green top, dark green interior, and an electric front bench seat. Great for Saturday nights after the dance.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner in who started with the first fuel guzzling boat.

Yeah! As a Brit, I can hardly believe the HUGE cars some of you guys in the US learned to drive in. When you see a learner driver over here, he's in a small car creeping nervously along, almost on the grass verge.

Yes, it seemed to be from the next century. A lot of AUDI cars looked rather similar, TWENTY years later...

I learned to drive in full size vehicles but I can't stand to drive bigger vehicles anymore.

I can zip around, squeeze through gaps and park without much effort in my Focus....but in a big truck I can't do a lot of things i do in smaller cars.

Although I do really like driving muscle/sport cars, for a daily driver, i'd much rather have something smaller.

I learned to drive in a Toyota Van.

I learned to drive a manual in about 30 minutes in a VW transporter called the Pickel cause they messed up its repaint and it looked like a pickel more than olive drab. Anyway the guy riding with me didn't want to drive so he asked me if I knew the concept of stick I said yeah. So he tossed me the keys and statered reading Stars and Stripes.

This old boat. i was driving at 13 on the farm, but this is the one I learned to drive on the road. Same colour just really badly faded. Flat head 6, 3 on the tree, standard steering and brakes. I was 15 when I stole it, twice. Dads' car, but I did take it without his permission.
